Comment: The bookies reckon that AVB has turned his attention towards Zenit St. Petersburg star Nicolas Lombaerts, who is a versatile Belgian defender who has been capped 21 times by his national team.

Interestingly Lombaerts is quite similar in style to Tottenham’s existing Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen, and can play either as a center back or as a left back. He is a little older at 28, but that isn’t likely to bother Spurs significantly as they are looking for some experience in that position considering the youngsters coming through at the club.

Comment: Lazio are bracing themselves to receive offers for midfielder Antonio Candreva, with serious interest in the schemer from England.

The 26-year-old had been on loan at Lazio from Udinese, however on 17th June the Rome giants announced they had activated their right to purchase option of the player, taking half of his rights from their fellow Serie A side.

Now though the Coppa Italia winners are set to face a battle to keep hold of Candreva as, according to Italian daily Il Tempo, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Emirates Marketing Project are all casting their eyes towards the attacking midfielder.

There is interest from Germany too, where Borussia Dortmund are monitoring the player's situation at the Stadio Olimpico.

Comment: Cardiff are trying to beat Tottenham to the punch by signing Benfica striker Nelson Oliveira on a season-long loan, writes John Cross.

Oliveira, a 21-year-old full Portugal international, is being made available after falling out of favour at the Lisbon giants - he can go for a £1million loan fee, with a £6m option for a permanent deal.

Premier League new boys Cardiff are very keen as they build a squad to compete in the top flight, but are aware that Tottenham's Portuguese boss Andre Villas-Boas is also interested and has made discreet enquiries.

Comment: Tottenham's director of football Franco Baldini has been watching the FIFA under 20 World Cup and one of the players that most impressed Baldini is Penarol's midfielder Sebastian Cristoforo.

Cristoforo is a very versatile young player, comfortable playing either as a defensive midfielder or attacking midfielder. He has been with Uruguayan side Penarol since 2011 and has forced his way into the club's first team plans on a regular basis.

Uruguay finished in second place in the tournament, one of the highlights being Cristoforo's stunning performance in holding midfield against eventual winners France.

The 19-year-old currently has two years remaining on his Penarol deal and Tottenham will make their first enquiry next week.

Comment: TOTTENHAM and Liverpool are set to battle it out for Tiago Ilori after Sporting Lisbon confirmed they will listen to offers of £6m for the player.

Liverpool made a £3m bid for the talented defender earlier in the offseason only for the Anfield club to turn their attentions elsewhere after Sporting reportedly refused to negotiate.

But according to A Bola, the Portugese club are now ready to cash in on Ilori after failing to get the 20-year-old to agree to a new contract.

Comment: Tottenham are on alert as former target Willian has reportedly put up for sale by current club Anzhi Makhachkala.

Russian side Anzhi signed the forward for £30m last January with Spurs unable to compete with their financial superiority.

However, following a run of poor results in the Russian Premier League owner Suleyman Kerimov has put a number of the team's stars up for sale.

It could leave the door open for Spurs to swoop in and sign the talented Brazilian for a price they were previously willing to pay, though to be around £20m.
