Team News

Both teams face significant absences due to injuries and the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

  • Tottenham Hotspur: Key players James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, and Dominic Solanke remain sidelined with knee injuries, while Xavi Simons serves the final match of his suspension. Pape Sarr and Yves Bissouma are at AFCON, and Destiny Udogie is out with a hamstring injury. Lucas Bergvall is also a doubt.

  • Sunderland: Sunderland have six players participating in AFCON. Defender Dan Ballard is a doubt due to an ankle issue, but striker Brian Brobbey, who sustained a muscle tightness scare against Emirates Marketing Project, is expected to be available.

which badger today?

I think we are almost better off playing 352 today. But in doing so Porro and Spence must be attack minded to give us width. We have no number 10 and no reliable left winger. Spence needs to get forward and run with the ball. Porro needs to get forward and cross towards Richarlison who can be used to get the ball forwards quickly and play to Muani who plays in his strongest role.

As we have a flat midfield pivot pair of Palinha and Bentancur most likely then let them cover as Romero or VDV moves out of defence to either pass and make things happen (Romero) or carry the ball forwards with pace (VDV).

Kudus to play in the ten role and link with Richarlison and Muani.

Playing with a back 4 will likely see us repeat how we played v Brentford but this time lose 1-0.

Would be nice if we were the honey badger

i think we can keep the current formation but have palhinha as a pure DM - i.e. protecting the CBs and blocking passing lanes instead of tackling everything in front of him.

i mean who and how many can get past a back 3 of romero, palhinha and VDV in front of goal?

the rest can then focus on build up and attack play, but of course we still need the wing backs defending so that our back 3 can keep their shape

Yep, I really wish we switch to 3/5 at the back. I think it suits our [available] players well.

I think that's the most sensible approach. Just need players to move off the ball and back the players to make a forward pass

Well based on recent performances, not us 🙄
