Freesat Vs Sky

ITV Player, while not a patch on Beeb's iPlayer, will let you watch the ITV4 guff for free online and you can just pay for the Sky Sports - all the BBC channels (non-HD) are online too.

Is my memory right that your outside of the UK a bit? If so then Expat Shield would be a good option (free vpn) to get the online bits, though if you have access to a UK router then I can give you the Sky IP's so you can view the live TV from them.

Yeah im out the uk a fair bit.

So how do i just pay for sky sports because i have sky and when ever i have called them i can never just get sky sports i have to have a package. I have freeview through the t.v. anyway so if i could get rid of my sky package but keep sky sports i would be interested for it.

Chich. Your first two options (BT Vision and TopUp TV) are explained a bit here:

The next option is to subscribe to Sky Go, which will let you have just Sky Sports for about ?ú25 a month (No ESPN though, that's extra). This is an internet service that is delivered to your computer / laptop / Xbox360 / or mobile device (iPhone etc). I nice bonus to this is that you can connect an iPhone to any TV with AV in, using an iPhone AV cable and watch Sky anywhere you go in the UK.

Those are pretty much the options at the moment, until YouView comes out in the summer.

Or... You could stay with Sky and make it more worthwhile by adding a SlingBox so that you can watch Sky when you're abroad: http://uk.slingbox.com/go/home

Wot Wookie said, but I route all Sky traffic to my router in the UK to watch rather than Slingbox and if I'm away from home then I use Identity Cloaker to gain access.

Quality is fine on my own vpn setup, I'll grab some fullscreen later too so you can judge, the movie chan's have an auto setting for the quality and I would guess the same for Sports too - SSN just has a high / medium / low option.

I too have cancelled Sky. ?ú70 odd quid, just to watch SSN on loop all day. I'll miss HD footy, but pub here I come!

I'm watching so much TV via the AppleTV nowadays, I really dont need to wait 6 months for Sky to show the programmes in the UK - missing weeks here and there, just to fudge up the planner everytime, grrrrr...

It goes next week - however, we all know they will ring me in 3 weeks and offer it for half price, so I'll probably do that for HD Sports only. Just had enough of being taken the tinkle out of!

Looked at Virgin (as I have their cable broadband) and it seems much cheaper, so will go there if Sky dont cough up.

I've got standard set up Sky+ multi-room with unlimited internet and line rental + talk unlimited... Sets me back 60 a month. Was costing me between 70 amd 80 before i paid the extra 5er for talk unlimeted as the phone bill was 20+ a month just in landline calls!! (thats after they take 12 in line rental). Didn't bother with sports or movies as i tend to watch sports in my local or online and movies seems a waste as it repeats itself too much!

Would like to go Virgin but don't think they cover my area. Would be better off going back to freeview as the only brick she watches is pretty much what she watched on freeview anyway, and i often don't get a look in when the remotes concerned.... So seriously considering gettin rid
