Dubai: Former Spain international Michel Salgado and Arsenal star Bacary Sagna helped launch BuyMyPlayer.com, a sports fan funding platform, here on Wednesday.

Dubai-based Salgado, who has been named ambassador for the website that kicks off this summer, hailed the innovative site.

“I believe this platform has no boundaries as this is the future of football. It is for football enthusiasts around the world, not only the ones that visit the stadiums,” Salgado said.

BuyMyPlayer.com gives fans the opportunity to pledge money to support the transfer of their chosen player to a team of their choice. Users will have to register at www.buymyplayer.com — after which they can pre-pledge, live pledge or both. Members can then use their debit or credit card to contribute an amount of their choice to a certain pledge. The website uses Paypal and, should the transfer not happen, a full refund is guaranteed.

“When a pre-pledge gets 10,000 supporters, it will be taken under assessment to become a live transfer. Once a pre-pledge becomes a live transfer, participants have the opportunity to make actual financial contributions towards the potential transfer,” said Faisal Bel Houl, Chairman of BuyMyPlayer.com.

So not content with the amount of money being spent by clubs, they want the public to start putting money towards signing players?

The fudge?

Blame United with their Ronaldo brick.
Could be useful for non league clubs needing quick fixes but anything higher than that then no chance, no place for it at all

Would be more interesting if you could invest in a player and get a cut of future transfers.
Many clubs around need investment to hold onto players and are willing to sell parts of a player to investors.
This BuyMyPlayer plan seems just another way to con money out of football supporters.

Any team that has 10,000 fans willing to pay money for a signing will be by nature a big club.
Any signing that gets fans excited enough to pledge money is gonna be a few million.
Most fans aren't gonna be willing to pay 500 quid each for a good player.
And they're not gonna be willing to pay 50 quid each for an average player.

No player will ever be transferred by this method.

Is this what Levy has been waiting for?

"We will complete the transfer of Paulinho as soon as Spurs fans have pledged £3m on buymyplayer.com" announcement coming up?

Lmao! (Sorry, cant do faces from.my phone)

It would only work if there was a return involved. But that would equal 3rd party ownership

Brilliant

So what happens if the team does not want this said player and vice versa?

Nothing and the money is returned I assume. Negotiations will be done by the clubs regardless, not like this site has their own agents and negotiators to put in place a deal.

If Manu went public with them needing their fans support to be able to bring Ronaldo back to the club. How much money do you guys think they would be able to raise worldwide? I'm thinking they would get a fairly significant amount.

I hereby pledge all my money ever to see Jack Wheelchair transferred to the Congolese team Tout Puissant Mazembe.
