Crazy. If guilty you have to wonder what on earth would drive such a wealthy man and popular figure to start blackmailing a fellow pro, and team mate none the less, for even more money. Greed? Gambling addiction? Or maybe he's just the sort of a**e hole who would've been suited for Arsenal.
 
The oddest (most odd?) thing about that story, is how the article sums up Benzema's career. These are his milestones, according to BBC:
  • Born in Lyon as one of 10 children in a family of Algerian origin
  • Joined Lyon youth football academy aged nine
  • Made professional debut in 2005, aged 17
  • Recruited by Real Madrid FC from Olympique Lyonnais in 2009
  • Played first senior match for French national team in March 2007
  • Linked with a move to Arsenal in August
  • Cleared of charges he slept with an under-age prostitute in 2014

Innocent until proven guilty.
 
It reads like he was used to get the message to Valbuena from the blackmailers via his relative. Perhaps it was a plot by the blackmailers (including the parties involved in the sex) and Valbuena was caught literally with his pants down. Perhaps we can also assume that this relative is being threatened by the blackmailers?

If what it says in this article is true then I'd guess that Benzema was in it for himself.

If Benzema is guilty, and gets convicted, then the hilarious thing is that he will be a prime target for extortion from his cell mates.
 
If Benzema is guilty it would simply prove that some footballers really are as thick as pigbrick...and/or that people who are scum will remain so no matter how much money is thrown at them (see John Terry)

Expect him to be brought back just in time for this summer.
