Arsenal have stepped up their pursuit of an 18-year-old branded the 'new Cristiano Ronaldo' as they move to make sure the player is not snapped up by north London rivals Tottenham.

Alvaro Vadillo has been scouted by many of Europe's top teams but it appears Spurs and the Gunners are now in a head-to-head battle to secure his services.

Arsene Wenger is under serious pressure from supporters to land a few signings before the Premier League season kicks off, while Tottenham - who have already broken their own transfer record twice this summer - are expected to make as much as £100million from the sale of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid.

The Spanish winger has drawn comparisons with the Real Madrid superstar due to his poise on the ball, fondness for a trick, and dribbling ability on the left wing.

He possesses a similar build to that of the young Ronaldo and the early indications are his decision-making is more advanced than the Portuguese's was at the same age.

Vadillo, having progressed through the Real Betis academy, became the youngest player to start a La Liga match when he made his debut for the senior side in a 1-0 away win at Granada in August 2011 aged 16 years, 11 months and 16 days.

In October of that year Manchester United reportedly had a £2.5m bid turned down, with his manager Pepe Mel suggesting he would soon be worth much more.

'We are studying offers for him and there has been a concrete one recently from a foreign team,' he was quoted in Marca. 'But if he is worth €4million today after playing 30 matches then, for example, he could be worth €12million and so on.'

In only his fifth first team appearance, a collision with Sergio Ramos at the Bernabeu tore his cruciate ligament and kept him out for six months.

He used that time to learn English and returned last season to become a regular – but has yet to score for Betis.

This summer, at the Under 19 European Championship, he scored once during a 3-2 win over the Netherlands as Spain reached the semi-finals.

Sounds interesting, I'd like to see us buying a couple of these type of starlets a year to make sure we build sustainably for the future. Baldini should be good for this.

The Welshman’s rumoured summer departure from White Hart Lane is still a long way off coming to fruition, but Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is starting to line-up possible replacements for Real Madrid’s top target.

And after tracking Vadillo for best part of the summer, Spurs are edging closer to a move for the winger and are believed to have opened preliminary negotiations with the Betis hierarchy,

Vadillo, 18, is thought to have a £17.3m release clause in his contract, with the Seville-based club holding high hopes for his future.

And club president Miguel Guillen has already insisted it would take an impressive bid to convince him to part with his young star.

‘The club’s intention is that Vadillo shall stay at Betis. For us to allow our young prodigy to depart, there would have to be a very strong financial benefit for the club,’ he said.

Ah a "Bale replacement"

Álvaro Vadillo is not for sale. Betis has slammed the door closed on any potential negotiations for the sale of its young star. This is the action the side has taken in response to the interest shown by Tottenham, who see him as a useful addition if Bale eventually moves to Real Madrid.

There's agreement at all levels of the club; Vadillo will be an important player this season. He's expected to explode out of the blocks and become a symbol of the club's future, as Joaquín and Beñat have been recently. With this being the lay of the land, Vlada Stosic, the Betis sporting director honestly said the club is "not listening to offers for Vadillo. We want to keep him. Unless someone comes and pays the clause, or a figure very close to his buyout clause, then he'll be staying." A carbon copy of the line taken by the club's president.

The clause of the talented young player from Puerto Real is set at €20 million, a sum that shouldn't cause a problem for Tottenham but would solve almost all the financial woes currently experienced by Betis. Pepe Mel is even more conclusive than Stosic: "There's nothing to talk about regarding Vadillo because as far as we're concerned he's not for sale. Obviously, if someone lays his full buyout clause on the table and the player wants to leave then there's nothing that we can do".

Problem being these young starlets need playing time to max their potential. They would be silly going anywhere they won't be first choice really.

Not sure how that relates to this one in particular though.

Maybe this is who we were after all along. (Django Unchained)
He has bigger ears than Bale so he must be a better player.

you buy him and loan him to a prem team to show he is up for it then bring him back into the fold. Easy!

Could he be an alternative to Halilovic? I'm quite sure we won't buy both anyway...

Baldini did really well bringing in Lamela to Roma for a considerable amount of money, would like to see him have a go at completing a similar deal for us.

from the videos he reminds me of taraabt :) beyond the complicated moves I hope theres more to him than whats on there !

hallilovich on the other hand reminds me more of townsend - less trickery more pace.
