How many CM do we have now?

Paulinho, Sandro, Dembélé, Capoue, Holtby, Benteleb, Carroll, Livermore. Eriksen seems to excel for us playing from the left side. Sigurdsson also occasionally plays in the center.

So, 7 full-time CM and 2 part-time CM for us for the 4-4-2 system. That is way too many already.

Not quite. Livermore and Carroll are still out on loan. Sig has played there once I think, not likely to happen again.

We have 4 outright central midfielders in Paulinho, Sandro. Dembele and Capoue. With Eriksen and Holtby as potential options. In addition we have young Bentaleb. I think it would be a mistake to rely too heavily on a 19 year old central midfielder at this point.

The problem with our 4 outright central midfielders is that there isn't a playmaker amongst them. If Eriksen is that man, or if Holtby is that man, if Carroll is brought back to be that man or if Bentaleb is that man is all fine with me as long as they're good enough. Problem was that none of them were being used there when I started this thread, now it seems Sherwood is moving in a good direction.
