World Cup 2026: Mexico, USA and Canada

I'm sure this will be popular here. When Saka came on Tuchel switched Maduke to the left. This can only mean he's considering him as replacement for Gordon on the left. He's thinking of starting both Saka and Madueke. He also tested replacing Anderson with Eze.

That little bit at the beginning where Henry passes the ball towards Lalas and then draws it back with his other foot. The expression on his face. :)

He was banned a few years ago for match fixing, or having dealings with someone who was match fixing. I wonder what the odds of a referee getting cramp were?

Yes, that does seem to be the case. It will also affect how the ball spins or swerves. Perhaps late movement which the goalkeeper responds to slowly might make the ball seem faster on TV.

They've changed the shape of the ball, trying to make it more spherical. Instead to the traditional truncated icosahedron made from 32-panels, this ball is only made from four panels and the seams and texture change the aerodynamics. The Jabulani in 2010 only used eight panels and created some...

Neymar is injured for this game so they might play more as a team. It's been noted that Brazil went 24 years without winning the world cup before winning in the US in 1994 and that they last won the world cup 24 years ago.

    Robbie Keane

He was appointed in June 2023, before the October 7 attack and Israel's response. If he'd taken the job after the scale of Israel's retaliation was known the criticism might have more merit. He did leave at the end of the season.

    Daniel Levy - Former Chairman

Well, exactly. I was asking why only 24.9% and not the 25% that would force a mandatory offer? Anyway, it seems the threshold is 30% for Bahamas registered companies (at least according to Google's AI) so that doesn't seem the reason.

    Daniel Levy - Former Chairman

Isn't 25% the threshold that requires a company to make a mandatory take-over bid? Or is that only public companies? The purchase seems odd as it comes with little voting rights. I assume they want to take control, so I doubt there will be any investment in t he club without agreement on some...

    The Goon Thread

It was good to see the two penalties with the stutter step miss and Raya's antics not rewarded. I also found a couple of comments on Gabriel amusing: "The miss from Gabriel Magalhães, his defensive rock, and set-piece tussler-in-chief, was one for the ages." (source) "He is undoubtedly a...

    The Goon Thread

Yes, I was thinking that hadn't been thought through properly. I doubt the players will be happy about having to appear so soon. Give it a week and they might enjoy the PL win more.

    Champions League 25/26

Everytime they "simplify" the handball rule it seems to get more complicated. An alternative would be to make every hand ball an offence punishable by an indirect free kick. That would reduce the impact of the decision. Indirect free kicks in the penalty area could be fun. Blatant handballs...

    Champions League 25/26

Yes, the reasoning was it came off his foot and hit his right hand, rather than directly hitting his hand in an unnatural position. However, subsequent contact with the left hand helped him control the ball. The latter would lead to a disallowed goal at the other end, even if inadvertent...

    Champions League 25/26

Playing more defensively after getting an early lead is understandable, but playing too defensively is counter-productive. Give away possession quickly and the opposition get more chances. Stop attacking totally and there is no chance of a lucky second goal, while the opposition can safely push...

    Corners in matches

All referees will give some allowance for time-wasting, but normally this comes at the end of the game. It's rare that there have been 40 minutes of such tactics before half-time and I suspect most referees would be tinkled of by then.
