Victimpool FC - Klopp leaving, grown men crying

Arsenal could well win it this year with 89. No they’re not as good as City and Liverpool were a couple of years ago (97-100 points level) but they probably won’t need to be to win the league either this year or next. I don’t see City back at that level in the near future.

Victimpool FC - Klopp leaving, grown men crying

I agree with that. I don’t think Arsenal are going to go away so I don’t buy that it’s this season or never much as I’d like to. In fact I’d put them as favourites for next season.

Romero for me. We’ll do well to hold onto him.

Victimpool FC - Klopp leaving, grown men crying

Very unlucky in that sense. 1 league title in 9(?) seasons is a poor reward for how good Klopp has been. Timing is a huge factor, as I’m afraid we’re about to see with Arteta and Arsenal.

Father Ted on Bishop Brennan was marginally more obvious but they’re on the same level.

    Ange’s system / formation

Yes of course, using the example of Liverpool (sorry about that @Baleforce) they improved massively by adding a world class keeper and centre-back. I suppose my point was by how much we can improve defensively within the confines of our present system by upgrading certain positions.

1 season isn’t enough. The question is how much can the system improve with better players?

He was at the same point 12 months ago that Alonso is at now, just won the league and having the chance of a shot at the champions league under no real pressure, knowing that his value was unlikely to decrease in the meantime. I expect Alonso will follow the same path and move this time next year.

The Official 2023/24 Premier League Thread

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Pep walks away in the summer - if they win the league. I think he won’t do a long goodbye. There’s nothing left to achieve and he’d avoid the FFP fallout if he went this year.

Not that we’re looking but Iraola at Bournemouth looks like an interesting up and coming manager

It’s definitely weaker than it was when City and Liverpool were tipping 100 pts. They’ve regressed and unfortunately it’s Arsenal that are best placed to take advantage without needing to be quite at that level. Edit: Sorry I completely missed the post you were replying to. Don’t mind me, I’ve...

The Goon Thread - Officially Second In A One Horse Race

Well it was us who did most of the kicking, eye-gouging etc if I remember correctly. I’m thinking more on the lines of Arse* doing the same (x10) this time, leading to several red cards plus charges of bringing the game into disrepute ideally resulting in a points deduction.

We have a chance to derail them on Sunday. Play like our lives depend on it, same as Chelsea did against us in the Leicester season. Arteta is combustible and we should play on that and turn it into a battle, wind them up and they’ll lose their heads. Doubt if we will though.

    Cann we?

True that if you’re not in you can’t win. But in terms of development, a season in Europa might be no harm at all.

Normally I don’t like Bayern but I’m grateful to them for their services over the years in keeping Arse* down and I would LOVE to see Eric Dier win the champions league.

Anyone watching Ripley? I’m half way through it. A lot more slow moving than the film (and no Jazz). It’s beautifully shot - if you like b&w photography & cinematography. I’m enjoying it.

    Bundesliga Bonestroker Thread

Yes it’ll take more than 1 season to show if Alonso is really the “real deal” or not but this is only his second (?) year as a manager - unlike Ranieri who had been around for years. The more apt comparison at this stage could be with AVB at Porto. But Porto already had a tradition as serial...
