I don't know the ins and outs of UK farming but it is not about land. Holland is the 2nd biggest exporter of food in the world and is about 17% the size of the UK. It is about choices and priorities. Farmers need to make a profit, though, as you say, so that's where they aim for rather than what...

Just watched it. Brilliant journalism. Somebody is going to get in big trouble for that.

These islands are perfect for growing food (or were), but sufficiency can be achieved under glass as the Dutch have shown. Reducing animal farming is key though.

Indeed. The food security one involves external supply chains, which are pinch points outside the boundaries of the UK. Disruption there will have an immediate impact within days and a potentially catastrophic impact within a week ( 9 meals from anarchy...). You could argue most of the others...

Started in horticulture college yesterday (part-time). I must be mad. Thankfully, loads of other (debatably) mature students in attendance.

Of course. Small boats were their main concern, so now they will be able to vote for other parties with policies that align with their thinking. Like.... eh...Restore.

My understanding is that an option means we can choose to buy or not at our own discretion, but an obligation means we have to buy regardless. In the first case, I don't think that Chelsea can pull the plug on a deal if we wish to proceed. That right has already been negotiated away.

    American politics

Looks like curtailing ballot submissions by using a new, unapproved, bricky online portal is the administration's play to rescue the midterms. They can't win except by cheating.
