Yep that was it. Although technically it was the NEC who blocked him as it is against party rules (or maybe guidelines) that a sitting Mayor cannot resign a mayorlty to stand in an MP by-election. Or something like that. It seems now they are going to waive that position.

It's risky - not a huge majority in the seat that's being offered to him.

If his lips are moving.... Also convenient timing to release this when everything is focused on the Starmer, Streeting and Burnham.

Streeting just resigned. So it's on.

Streeting could resign and issue his challenge now, and then he will be given a certain amount of time set by the NEC to get his 81 votes, as well as then allowing others to enter the race. You'd imagine if he does challenge he must feel he has enough "we're not declaring now but will do if you...

    Antonin Kinsky

Richie was quite strongly telling him which way it would be struck. (Kinsky might have decided to go that way in any case, but Richie was definitely telling him to go to his right). I agree he definitely seems to have bought some confidence and calmness to the defence (and to me as welll when...

This could be one for the popcorn (And did I miss him winning a national election somewhere along the line?).

It looks like some weird jenga tower. Pull out the wrong brick and it all comes crashing down. A somewhat apt metaphor when you think about it.

If you come here from Somalia and claim asylum and if your claim is adjudged to be a valid one then you should not be refused asylum.

So even if a significant amount of people from a certain country (or even region as you said - how wide does that stretch?) - are working, you’d block everyone from that country (or region) because the majority aren’t?

Don’t know really. Just something that irks me a bit. But he does get the crowd going, have to give him that. He was great in Bilbao.

    VAR: Sponsored by Chelsea

And then stop dissection of every decision via TV. That’s partly why we got to VAR because every mistake was highlighted over and over. Of course there’s no way to stop that.

Will be there a bit earlier than usual so might wander round to the East stand and lap up some of the atmosphere from the live music. I find James Black a bit annoying but he’s probably good for a game like tonight to get the atmosphere going pre-match.

    The Goon Thread

One small consolation we can take from them winning the PL, as they undoubtedly will now, is that after yesterday's game and West Ham's disallowed goal, everyone is talking about how they have had decisions going their way all season and how they have been getting away with pushing and grappling...

I didn't think it was a particularly bad speech in and of itself to be honest, but his delivery just makes everything sound flat. He couldnt have announced any new policies (which I have seen mentioned that he should have) with just the weekend to work on it and without cabinet input, and he was...
