Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

It may be a factor in some cases but you never really know the full circumstances. It could be that these people have sold everything they have to make it to UK shores, so this is not a good yardstick to measure against. I believe the most common reasons are family, or they speak English, or...

That number is too small, but the idea that numbers are based on the whim of a minister is also wrong.

I would say that is too limiting. There are many reasons for seeking asylum beyond war, though obviously, everything helps. By a big margin, refugees just move to the next country anyway. If they cross a continent and/or body of water to get to the UK, it is nearly always for reasons other than...

If the government can set an arbitrary number, like zero for instance, then that will be abused and needless to say would not be your fair share. Of course you don't have to accept them all. The asylum process will decide if they are valid or not. Most that apply are approved now, but the...

That is what people are arguing for. Safe and legal routes. The counterargument from the right is that this would invite more applications than the current number. And it is likely your 'agreed upon number' would be set higher as the UK has reduced intake now because of it's geography. That...

Thiel dumped all his Ndivia stock. I wonder if he senses that the AI bubble is about to burst shortly.

I know what you said. This is the usual circular argument from those who don't want anyone arriving. I was just pointing out the absurdity of it.

It is less of a problem for the UK than for many countries in the global north, though you wouldn't know it from the coverage it receives. For those claiming asylum, speed of processing is the key to solving the hotel problem, as @Glenda's Legs said. Under previous tory govs this processing...

Firstly, because they are idiots. And secondly, because asylum seekers are there. Not immigrants. Just as you said yourself, you can't emigrate to another country and get put up free in a hotel. You are conflating two different categories of people coming to the UK.

Immigrants are not in the hotels.

Denying any legal routes only tags them as illegal, but claiming asylum makes them legal, as it should.

If they are in a hotel they are already in the system. Legal.

I'd be disappointed if Levy didn't work in something like that. In fact there's probably a clause in place to take Parrott's firstborn child and use of the largest room in his house for whatever purpose he sees fit.

Not exactly. It is not entertaining either.
