Agreed. Will be interesting to see what happens with that over a bit of time. At this point arguably more of an unknown than anything. But I think it's fair to expect improvement over time from here, but not sure about the time frame. He's gotten some really good fundamentals in place. More to...

Depends how good/bad West Ham are for me. For where we are it's a fine, good, decent performance in that first half for me. Nothing spectacular, but good and solid. That's not a bad thing.

    João Palhinha

For sure. I think that's kinda what I'm saying too. Not on the question of getting the credit he deserves I think it will depend on how well those others can do at those things he's not good at. And I think it's fair to discuss those weaknesses as weaknesses even though they're well known...

    João Palhinha

The well known one's. Lack of creativity, lack of ability to progress the ball under pressure. If he has space he's a decent passer like he showed after they went down to 10. But under pressure he doesn't do much with the ball. That's perfectly fine, that's the player he is.

    João Palhinha

I think I wrote that before we signed Simons and Kolo Muani on loan.

    Cristian Romero

Thought he was excellent yesterday. Several really good moments. The assist for the second that killed the game. The cool composure when that one cross came off VdV in front of Vicario. Several good line breaking passes. But then also overall good solid defending. Three clean sheets in four...

    Thomas Frank - Head Coach

Definitely back to business after the stumble against Bournemouth. Very much a Brentford-esque performance for me. Solid, bit safety first, but as long as we get the goal sooner or later we'll be good. And even though we struggled a bit with creating chances we were a threat with set pieces and...

    João Palhinha

A game that highlighted both his strengths and weaknesses imo. How much credit he gets will depend on how well the rest of the team can do at the things he isn't as good at.

    Lucas Bergvall

What's above the sky? 😉 Two starts, two sub appearances so far in the league. Frank obviously trusts him already, as he should.

    Mathys Tel

The potential is definitely there. And as you say works hard and was a presence. Seems a good pro and hard worker. That and talent is a good mix.

Definitely think that would have changed things a bit. But I also think we need more variety in our attacking threat than we showed in that first half.

Understat has us with an xG of 0.24 at half time. I agree that some ref decisions could/should have gone our way, that would have changed that. We also had several situations from set pieces and crosses where smallish margins could have seen us create better chances. Just also think we need to...

    Mathys Tel

Helped that the ball was played to him in different situations than high crosses into the box and back to goal - both while battling big centre backs. Glad Frank kept him on as long as he did. Kid deserved that.

    Xavi Simons

Neither him or Bergvall dropped deeper to get involved in buildup much. Seems like they were playing to instructions? Some good stuff, some meh, decent debut.

Said it before, but this squad is better than good. The players we're missing, that starting 11, that bench...

***Spurs vs West Ham Untd***, PL, 13th September 2025 at The London Stadium

Good, not great performance. Helped out by some brick defending and the red card making it a stroll in the second half. Mostly controlled, but struggling to create chances up until the opener. The kind of performance that will end up in some frustrating games, but no Richarlison, Solanke or Kolo...

Really good ball striker, quick, decent dribbler. But at this stage at least not strong enough to compete physically with PL centre backs. Give him chances in and around the box and he'll show what he can do.

Lack of creativity deep in midfield again a real issue. Would have thought Bergvall would drop deeper at times, but just not happening. Getting crosses in, at least for a while.

He didn't make the squad because we lack club trained players, but still wanted a squad that could compete across CL, PL and domestic cups so someone had to miss out. He may be third choice, depends how you look at things. Competition and some rotation was always going to happen.

Richie was poor against Bournemouth because he got no service he thrives on. Tel would have been equally bad. I don't think Frank just dropped Richarlison because of that performance. Injury, or just that we have to be a bit careful with him. Those long late travel days aren't exactly a great...
