Swimming in rivers and lakes has (for the most part) been safe for thousands of years. Africa, not so much. Hippo's, crocs, sharks etc...
Fear can be passed down genetically as a part of evolution.

I’m lucky enough to live 10mins from an Alpine lake in Northern California (technically it’s a reservoir but it’s filled from snowmelt so is very clean and idyllic af).
Anyways as part of my new exercise routine I’m trying to swim for 15-20 mins a few times a week before work. It’s a nice, refreshing temperature right now but will get cold during the winter. Trying to persuade my neighbor to do it with me to keep up the schedule.
