American politics

I just don't know how we are going to explain to the world this second term of Donald Trump in 50 years time.

Also one thing you gotta hope, is that it's an outlier.
Trump is definitely unique in one respect, in that I don't think anyone else has the personality to keep all the disparate right-wing factions more or less goose-stepping together. This coalition is beginning to break up now, the infighting has started, but that it has held together for so long is solely down to Trump.

Someone like Vance could not pull this off ever, and when he shortly becomes president, infighting among the factions will tear the MAGA movement apart. Vance is Theil's lapdog and the techbro agenda does not chime with the nativists, the fundamentalists, America first, etc However, the brick may have gone too far down the authoritarian path to save it at this point. Most historians agree that no country has come back from this point without a violent upheaval. Either way, Trump has definitely destroyed America's standing the world, such as it was, and that will not be fixed in the short term.

Thankfully to a level, this kind of grove only lasts for so long because people do want to see the substance behind the bu11brick, he can't deliver it so the questions have come in the second term. Its like Farage, the cracks with reform are now well and truly appearing, the whole council showing proves they don't have the talent or the policy to succeed, his spat with Lowe is like a micro version of what happens with Trump and one of his old best mates. We are just lucky it happened before Farage has had a chance to get into power.

The world needs a whole lot of healing, the divisiveness is killing any kind of progess forward.

I try very hard to refrain from too much comment (partially because if I start I might well end up writing a novel - which would be a sad thing for all of us).
But some of the theocratic rhetoric coming from, err, 'the guys who don't usually get tagged with tha (a whole other debate of course because that is a nonsense)' is absolutely insane in this day and age. It was pretty bad during the crusades too. It is all bordering on too much to process.

It's so obvious Trump isn't negotiating anything with Iran, even the markets have stopped believing him today. Iran don't really have much more to lose now, boots on the ground will be massively unpopular and lead to a lot of casualties and bombing loses effect after a bit once the initial areas are taken out.

He's looking for an off ramp....but tbh there isn't an obvious one.

He hopes to get a 'deal' on the off chance the Iranians play ball BUT, as you suggest, there's no reason for them to come to the table.

With all this noise, I think he's playing for time. Time to get ground troops in position, as it looking more than likely that the only potential way to get the Straits open is to send in a ground force.

Economically Trump is desperate for that BUT politically, sending in ground troops, will be a disaster for him.

I suppose it’s not his daughter for once.
