*** The official 2025/26 Premier League thread ***

It seems to me to be more about him being such an abrasive character. He's made half a dozen players train away from the first team in less than 12 months, he's called his team crap and said he wants to quit a few times. I'm sure there's a connection between that personality and his stubbornness in his tactics, but to suggest the troubles are all down to playing a system that many teams play is very short-sighted imo

I think weirdly he is what Man United need, they need to clear house BADLY and its going to take a fall guy to weed out the deadness and the trouble.

Its now a club thats about 10 years into its rot, so whoever is going to fix them is going to need 2/3 years to do it and its going to take someone who isn't going to be like for the first year and half to do it

There aren't many teams that play 343, and there's a good reason for it. But the biggest problem isn't the system. It's Amorim playing Bruno Fernandes as one of the two central midfielders! That's their biggest problem.
None of the midfielders they have are really suited/good enough for the way they want to play, least of all Fernandes.

You need your two midfielders to have exceptional positional awareness, and at least track players when defending. Bruno has none of those skills. He's an attacking midfielder. And only that.

Hopefully, Amorim will keep misusing him, as they will concede lots of goals because of it.

There's a problem with the system when you don't have the players to play it. It's often a midfield two of Bruno and Casemiro. Bruno is poor defensively and Casemiro can't move. To play it you need two top quality midfielders that are mobile and defensively aware. I don't know how many games I've seen their midfield being constantly played through.

Probably just semantics but that’s not a system issue. He’s just picking players in the wrong roles. Totally agree with @Kandi1977 that Bruno should never be played in a 2 in the middle, but shuffle the players around a bit and there’s no reason they should be this bad. There’s far more to it, like the examples I gave.

Too much credit is given to a formation.

He’s only hurt them even more because he’s literally relegated £80m players to the reserves. He is the person they need, but he’s just going about it in such a weird way imo.

It's a system issue in that he is picking the wrong system to get the best out of the players at his disposal. They need three in midfield to get the best out of Bruno.
Shuffle the players around a bit? Where could Bruno play in a 3-4-3? He doesn't suit the system at all.
What two midfielders have they got that can play in that system? Possibly Mainoo at a stretch, but he's not getting a look in.

Personally i am loving every minute of it. :D

People get so wrapped up in specific formations because it's the easiest thing to explain away. The difference between a 343 and 352 is very small.

Mainoo Mount
Bruno
Mbuemo Sesko

is how I would play it. That doesn't change his philosophy or principles at all.

But like I say, it's far more than that. He's very much contributing to the toxic environment that's enveloped the club with the way he's handled certain players he doesn't like.

Rashford
Sancho
Hojlund
Anthony
Garnacho
Malacia

All bombed out in a year! How on earth is it possible for a manager to create that many enemies in such a short time? All very expensive enemies too.

There's a huge difference between a 343 and a 352. It's 2 in the midfield v 3 in the midfield. With the two in the midfield they are constantly overrun because of the lack of mobility and defensive awareness with Bruno and Casemiro in there. With 3 in there it allows a proper defensive midfielder to be played and for Bruno to play further forward where he is at his best. Another box to box midfielder in there and suddenly they aren't getting overrun as easily in the midfield.

The point is 352 does not change his overall way of playing. And that the formation is not the only issue. I have nothing more to add.

Yet he won't change to a 352, he's stubborn and wed to 343. It's not the only issue but it's the one causing the biggest problems on the pitch and the easiest to fix.

He's an idiot. It doesn't matter how good the chef is or how good the ingredients are. If you don't have eggs you can't make an omlette. You have to make something else.

Like I said: "I'm sure there's a connection between that personality and his stubbornness in his tactics"

But him simply switching to 3 in midfield doesn't suddenly make them a top 5 team. The issues are as much off the pitch as they are on. And he's only exacerbated them since coming in.

He's already playing 2 in midfield and that's making them a bottom 5 team.

Wouldn’t change a thing with the wrong players
