Thomas Frank - Head Coach

Obviously he hasn't been loaned back to Spain because he can run far. That doesn't mean he's been loaned to Spain because he's not putting the effort in in the gym.
It means that no one in this country thinks he is viable for this country
Why is that?
I personally think it’s because they have looked at him and thought he blows over in the wind
In Spain the wind is calmer for him
It’s like when you go swimming in the sea … some is tough and choppy with horrible waves, and some has no waves and plenty of salt so is easy
That is one conclusion to draw from that, amongst many possible conclusions.

Could have been because he just preferred it, because it was thought to be better for his development, because it was thought likely to better retain or keep his value in the transfer market...
oh we as a club have fudged up
We brought a weakling for a LOT of money
Let him/sent him basically back to where he came form and now will lose a tonne of cash

The Gil signing was Paratici's doing wasn't it?

For me it’s purely because he cost a lot of money and hasn’t made any effort to adapt
I find it kinda scandalous that it’s accepted TBH
Even Tanguy worked out to improve his physicality and he struggled as we know
I seem to remember some reports from a couple of years ago where he recognised that he needed to bulk up to adjust to the league and he was working hard in the gym to put some weight on. So it seems like he had made some effort

This just in, Bedford still doesn't like Gill. Next up we'll be finding out if water is still wet! Did he wrong you at some point? It's like that poster who seems convinced that Kane was responsible for covid19 and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. You seem fixated on belittling his physique.

It's always a funny one when football fans suggest a particular player goes to the gym..As if the coaching staff hadn't considered getting a player on a fitness plan that involved gym work.
I think sometimes posters just feel so strongly against a player they can’t help themselves when the players name is brought up. Parklane1 with Maddison (previously Danny Rose), Bishop with Johnson. There was someone that had it in for Hojberg can’t remember who. Danish with several, Ndombele maybe?

Anyway I think it’s just part and parcel of being a passionate supporter of your team. It also works irrationally the other way too. I think Lamela is the greatest player to ever play the game. Second only to Ledley King of course

Think it was.

A point stolen from Nathan A Clarke on the extra inch podcast:

Physical attributes seemingly have been rated very highly. Maddison the only other player I can think of over those years without any standout physical attributes or good all rounders physically. Strength, stamina or speed seemingly has been criteria we've valued very highly.

Gil a bit of an outlier in that. Arguably has left us a bit short in some technical areas and creativity.

Not saying that's good or bad. Physical attributes are obviously really useful in football and in the PL.

Absolutely, and it is good context.

I'm probably the same the other way with a potentially irrational love of Richy and Sissoko. Obviously everyone's entitled to post whatever they want, there's not a tedium filter outside of our own ability to block posters. That said, it seems better to be positive about a player rather than being obsessed with laying into a professional athlete who is lightyears ahead of any of us lot in terms of fitness / discipline, because they're slight of stature.

I actively dislike players with poor technique. That's the minimum required.

If given the choice I'd rather have the lightweight fairy than a bruiser with no tech. At least with the fairy there's some distant and maybe faint hope of them doing something positive, with the bruiser there is none.

Every team is capping the physicality more and more because it’s what can over come better technicians. Even pep is valuing it more and more

You need a balance of athleticism and technique but you can’t get away without the first part
