Bro that's how defenders play, you can't look at the player at the same time as the pass is played. You judge the movement of the player in your peripheral view and basically guess. That's why sometimes they get it wrong.

I have no issue criticising the defending but let's be accurate about the mistake. The problem was our line, not him not apparently not knowing Salah was there.

I’m not even certain Royal stepped him off himself though. Regardless of Romero being deeper.

Either he doesn’t want to move forwards, or is under instruction to check back and play the ball back so we can faff about with playing the ball around so Pool can set their defense and we can totally fail to penetrate.
 
Can we please attack quickly and string passes together which could result in Alisson having to do something???

But good defenders are aware they can scan around very quickly. Royal is, sadly, not a good defender. Especially as an inverted left back.
 
How does Ange not see how blunt Johnson is on the left? A player that found a bit of form in his favoured position now shifted to accommodate what exactly!?

Clear sign that a few players are on the hit list at the moment and are not being considered. Richy, GLC.

It's not. Top players are constantly scanning, head never stops moving to see where the players are around them.
And a player standing behind you is in nobody's peripheral view.
