Moussa Sissoko

Thought he was poor in the first half, like the rest of the team but then just got his head played the 1-2 and ran. It worked 6-7 times in the second half, too powerful for their backline by far. I have always felt it was a bit of a panic buy overall but I can definitely see where Sissoko is of benefit to us and generally, his performances of late have been reasonably good.
Agreed. Should have had an assist to from the Janssen header. As I have said in the other thread I think it is hard to expect fringe players to come in and turn it on immediately especially in a side that had so many changes.

Sissoko has very good vision and can definitely take on a man better than anyone else in the squad. But if you expect this to happen every time he touches the ball, you're in for constant disappointment, because the opportunity to do so will not present itself all the time. Most of the time is going to be a simple sideways or backward pass. He's kind of like Dele and I would argue Dele goes missing more during a game, but makes up for it with goals. Since Sissoko's role is not primarily goals, he doesn't get the respect for some of the other things he does. Goals stand out more, after all.

I like him when he plays out wide and can see how he offers a different element/ingredient. Im looking forward to seeing his progression like so many of our players have demonstrated after a year at the club....

I like him too. He often just uses his pace and strength to run at defenders, and he very often gets past. Defenders certainly don't like that, and many seem a bit scared of him. His first touch isn't brilliant, but he still manages to get past and pick out people in the box. His directness, pace and power is very useful. He adds something different to what we had. His price tag is somewhat irrelevant.

He just needs to do that more often - especially in the opponents half - take some risks and put it hard into the penalty box. kinda like Son does.

Indeed. I cant imagine anyone has not seen in bursts what he can do, its just about doing it on a consistent basis. I have no doubt Poch can get him to achieve this given time....

I'm really confident that with this guys hype backed up by loads of French caps, that we will get a mega offer for him from China or psg.

We can then set about properly improving the depth of our attacking midfielders. Sissoko isn't that bad but clearly isn't of the quality we need to move forward.

Meanwhile Son again proved last night that he lacks the focus and discipline to become a top drawer player. It's a shame because he has the ability but these woeful performances we get from him 1 in every 4 games means he is no more than a good squad player and to be used mainly from the bench.

So we need to set about brining in the likes of Isco, Schurrle or the like so we can be sure whoever we start with we will get the top drawer performances virtually every time we play.

Only that very consistent quality from our best 15 or 16 players will take us to the title.

I think you'll find this is filed under "a contradiction in terms".
Schurrle, whilst decent and yes arguably better than our current options, still definitely does not guarantee you top drawer every performance!

I'm not a scout but we need to find people who don't put in a good performance 1 in 4 games (Sissoko) and people who are woeful 1 in 4 games (Son).

Keep Son because 1 in 4 he is amazing and 2 in 4 he's at least good but sissoko out.

Kane and eriksen didn't play well yesterday. They weren't brilliant against City either. Players form goes up and down. We have to trust the manager because one thing is clear, he does not tolerate mediocrity for very long.

They weren't brilliant but what they don't do on their off days is regulary and needlessly pass to the opposition - this is such a massive issue when players do this. It's an incredibly underated aspect. It destroys your sides impetus and gives the opposition both encouragement and potentially a chance to score.

What they also don't do on their bad days is routinely have a bad touch or worse still get one on one with the keeper and do a horrendous first touch which results in not even getting a shot away.

When we smash teams the above rarely happens from anyone but when we play poorly i.e. last night the above happens a lot.

Simply put, people who do these type of things regulary need to leave the club.

Felt abit sorry for Son, whilst he was not great he was better than Kane/Dele/Christian against Sunderland.

But Son regulary passed to the opposition and had a poor first touch multiple times. He got to the byline on one occasion near the edge of the six yard box and did a horrific slow straight pass to the keeper who was standing on his near post. He also got played in one on one at an angle and did a dreadful first touch which resulted in the ball harmlessley rolling to the keepers hands.

A 4/10 at best and well deserving of a fine imo.

You'd take a striker who's consistently getting into goal scoring positions over one who isn't wouldn't you? All else being equal. Son also setup Wanyama for what should have been a goal - had we scored would the assist been a consistent performance and contribution from Son?

No one was much cop attacking wise against Sunderland. At least Son was getting into decent positions. Yes he has to improve his touch, confidence, ruthlessness, but at 24 he's a developing talent. I would give him a couple of years at least. In the meantime he's pretty damn good. 11 goals, takes on and beats people regularly, has an awesome finish. He has the ingredients. If he settles and kicks on with us, I think he could become the kind of player you crave. We are not going to shell out £60m on 'dead certs'. Just look at united, how many of their 'consistent top class players' that they've singed for 10s of millions are delivering in 100% of games?

I would imagine that he is sometimes loathe to take those risks because of the likely reaction from our fans if the risk he takes fails to come off. Confidence is a huge thing in football, it will be difficult for Sissoko to gain confidence at Spurs because it seems that many of our fans want him to fail. I thought that Sissoko was one of our better players against Wycombe and probably our second best starting player after Son.

I have seen Kane do both of these things on numerous occasions.

Knee. Jerk. Moaning. Son was easily our best player by some distance in the first part of the season. Sissoko is yet to fill the headlines, but he's been nowhere near as bad as some suggest. I'm currently watching our home game vs city, and Sissoko was very very good. Some comments about our players are just so far off, it's ridiculous!

Can you name more than 2 games in his Spurs career where he routinely passed to the opposition and had a poor touch multiple times.

You won't be able to because he hasn't done so. Rare isolated incidents in different games but not multiple times 1 in every 4 games.

Doing that this regulary is not acceptable, that's the point here. It's detrimental to our success so we shouldn't make light of people who do this far too often.

There is no knee jerk here - you would likely realise this if you read all my posts in the last few days on this thread regarding this discussion.

I'm a huge Son fan but am simply pointing out that he was imo woeful against Sunderland and he produces said woeful performance 1 in every 4 games.

That must stop regardless of his great talent and his great early form. Not a major issue but something for him to address.

Sissoko meanwhile puts in a good display around 1 in 4 games. This return is totally unacceptable and he should be sold as soon as the Chinese or PSG come calling.
