Andros Townsend

Andros Townsend speaking to Sky Sports:

“As soon as I knew of Saudi Sportswashing Machine’s interest they were the only club I wanted to join.”

“Two of the best positions you can play in football are centre-forward/left wing at Saudi Sportswashing Machine. I’ve got the chance – I could never turn that down.”

“I can’t wait to play my first game at St James Park, I’m excited!”

I think Saudi Sportswashing Machine haven't done too badly there. 12m for an England international of his age, decent pace and goal scoring ability. Plus January transfer windows are notorious for over pricing.

Just kidding, I think we are past debating his ability now. Let's just take the money and wish him all the best.

Looks like Saudi Sportswashing Machine fans share my sentiments on this transfer: Don't fudge it up

I am really happy for the guy, I have always said as a naturally left footed player Andros has always been a more effective player on the left wing. I just think it is a shame that he never got a run in our team in his most natural position.

I wish him the very best of luck, apart from when he is playing against us

He will do really well there. I like the guy, always tried his best. Def a good option to have off the bench. Shame really.

He just needs to play. He'll improve as long as he gets game time, he has the right attitude, a shame it didn't work for him here. I'm sure many of us were rooting for him. Also worth remembering he has been with us longer than most. Good luck Andros

2 appearances short to qualify.
Last year though the Premier League give Chelsea 40 medals even though only 19 of their players had made 5 or more appearances.
Apparently the likes of Mark Schwarzer got a medal.
He might get one then if we do somehow manage to win the thing. Hopefully we don't have the bizarre circumstance arising that he's playing against us and if Saudi Sportswashing Machine win we loose the title to Arsenal and he gets no medal

But if a conflict of interest then on the last day if we have a chance of the title and he would get a medal. Would/should he be allowed to play?

With a steady run of games he could do okay. Whether they will give him time in their "Gold Fish Bowl" (JJ) I don't know. He is far from the finished article and needs a season of games to settle in and find his style. He does have ability, but he is not good enough for us at the moment. He's also older that other promising players we have. So its a no brainier to sell him.

What or who will we put the £10-12m towards!?

I was at that crap night game in the cold rain when West Ham knocked us out of the League Cup and Townsend was carried off on a stretcher having injured his hamstring. That seemed to be the beginning of the end as it were, as he was on a good run then and had made his way into the senior England side.

Good lad, lifelong Spurs fan and club man. I wish him the best.
