How many goals would Son have to score to meet your expectations?

Ok cool, New system, tactical variety I like it..... But it better ducking work, and none of this.... Oh we need to give it time to work, because we are with one striker until Jan at the earliest, and those that let that happen need to take the hit, if whatever they are planning doesn't work out... And fast....Why? ..... Because it lookS like ducking ineptitude to go into the season with one striker, amateur hour. If they have got it right then fair play to them, I will hold my hand up, but if not...and there are no half ways here... Then duck Mr heads need to roll and for the first time I will ask serious questions about Levy as well.

If we had signed Berahino it would have required tactical variety too because he is a different player to Kane. I would have expect the fans to show some patience with that and I think that they should show some patience whilst our new players bed in and we try out different ways of accommodating them. Unfortunately, too many of our fans think that anything less than instant success is unacceptable.

Come off it, it's not a ridiculous target to set. I'm not saying he HAS to hit it, but it's not out of the question.

I was asking how many similar players hit those kind of targets in their first season. I do not know the answer but it is a reasonable question when we are trying to set a realistic target.

he's a young man from a different culture moving to a new league with a different language, he can't "flop" this season, its an adjustment period, how he performs in years 3 and 4 are how he, and our purchase of him, should be judged

The winner. Its pity that some fans do not understand this.

OK fair enough, I couldn't tell you the answer. I still maintain it's achievable. 15+ would be a big ask for a first season.

And Galeforce, I don't think you can afford to give a player 3-4 years in the hope that he comes good. I agree you need a full season, but 2 seasons should possibly be the limit within reason of course.

I think that depends on the player, you bring a veteran guy across London like Gallas for example and yeah, get in there and get on with it, a youngster from another world should get a lot longer imo

The problem with these so-called adjustment period is that, we seldom keep a manager for more than 2 seasons. And by the time the new players get the experience they need at Spurs, the new manager might not need them !

Well then ( and I agree that is what we do) maybe some fans should stop screaming that he does not know what he is doing and give a manger time to build something. Just because some may be able to build a team on abacus games and start winning in the real world it usualy takes a lot longer. Its a pity that reality seems to escape the least patient of us.

South Americans coming to Europe for the first time need at least one full season. Given how trigger happy chairmen are these days, I would still say 2 years and if you do not significantly improve then it's time to move on.

Not signing berahino is not the issue, at least for me it isn't. Not signing a back up lone forward is. It's just such an obvious need, one that I seem essential to fill. If I'm wrong and the tactical variation of false 9 or converting one of our players works out from the off and consistently then fair play, quote me on this and I will gladly say I'm wrong. And I am was being a drama queen.... In fact you can put a drama queen as my aviator till the end of the season, but if not it's an almighty bollacks up, one that was completely avoidable, and in the absence of any power to duck everybody off involved in the shambles of a decision at spurs (including levy....... And I normally defend him to the hilt) then everyone who are talking about false 9s, converting players who haven't played in to lone forwards, show patience etc should have a similarly suitable aviator..... Deal?

I don't know about that.

i'm going back through the lists and i'm struggling to find the last non forward who scored 10 or more goals in his debut PL season, it might have been Cazorla but I can't remember when they signed him, he did take penalties though I think which should be mentioned (a goal is still a goal though)

I'll dig out some more stats for similar players later on but Hazard scored 13 in all competitions in his first season. I'd have Hazard down as the gold standard, getting close would be a massive achievement.

cool, I was only looking at league goal stats, Toure is another possibility but as you say for wide players yes Hazard is the man

But I thought he can play as a forward if needed?

Rightly or wrongly, he is going to be asked to carry some of the responsibility when it comes to goals as Mason, Bentaleb and Lamela rarely score and Kane can't play every single game.

What would you realistically say is the target then? Less than 5 league goals?

I wouldn't put a number on it, way to many factors to take into account, he might not score any but end up with 15 assists, that wouldn't make him a flop.
