Son Heung-Min Signs - Official

but i thought the old club scouting system has been ripped up and they have built a new one with new people

Yeah, when AVB/Baldini came here - isn't that when the first links are supposed to have surfaced?

Anyway there are only so many players in the world - a young wing forward scoring goals in Germany is going to stand out isn't he?

I can't stand that the first thing that comes up when an Asian played is linked (or American for that matter) is shirt sales. How many have actually been signed for that reason? YP Lee certainly wasn't, Kagawa, Park, Ki...all of them extremely talented players.

Strange that some seem to think that just because they're Asian, they're not as good at football as Europeans.

its not just shirt sales, its the increased exposure you get in those markets....we might be more on tv, the media there will tallk about us, lucrative pre/post season games, possible sponsorship deals from companies in those regions etc

Absolutely, living in Japan I see the full effects of it and would absolutely love us to sign a Japanese player. However, if it was solely for that purpose, then we'd have a reserve squad full of Asians. The shirt sales, exposure etc a nice bit on the side, but not the driving influence in signing Asian players.

Gutter Boy: Mabizela and Khumalo possibly...don't know much about South Africa. Toda was a bizarre signing all round and Yedlin had just played a pretty big role in the World Cup, so again I don't think it was the main factor.

Bayer Leverkusen star Hakan Çalhanoğlu has criticised his teammate Son for joining Tottenham.

Çalhanoğlu believes that Son was badly advised and that he cannot understand why he would miss Champions League football this season.

The 21-year-old also underlined that the whole team is disappointed with Son not responding to his teammates.

“I think he is badly advised,” Çalhanoğlu was quoted saying by Goal.

“I have written to him, called him, but he has not answered his phone. I am very sad, the whole team is a bit disappointed.”

The South Korea international is had his Tottenham medical on Wednesday and is expected to join the Premier League outfit.

Çalhanoğlu however, feels that Son is being forced into making the transfer by his family.

“When you’re 23 years old, of course you have respect for your father. But you have to sometimes make your own decisions. We were there for him always – that’s why we are sad. Everyone has tried to reach him,” he added.

Bayer secured a place in the Champions League group stages yesterday after beating Lazio 3-1 on aggregate. The Bundesliga outfit reached the Last 16 of the competition last season and only lost out to Atletico Madrid on penalties.

Çalhanoğlu stated in the game against Lazio and scored the opening goal. The 21-year-old is expected to start against Bayern Munich next on 29 August in the Bundesliga.

Strange comment from Calhanoglu......i remember the something along these lines being said when Lamela joined us, that he didnt want to leave Roma but his family and Roma couldnt resist the monies on offer from Spurs

that's the rumour about baldini curly silver locks isnt it lol

My gut feeling, based on absolutely nothing, is Lamela out - Son in, in the next "48 hours" and then Berahino on deadline day.
I would be quite sad if we just got Son in, TBH I knew nothing about him but after falling for the Youtube clips I want him in as much as Berahino now, but would be sad if we didn't get Berahino. For the 2 though aren't we looking at close to £45m?

£17m in the bank + c.£14m for Lamela. Lennon and Fazio money hopefully too

It pleases me that we're getting all these comments from other BL players who are mad with him. It shows that he is not only a good player but a good teammate as well.
