The Goon Thread

Jokes aside - they are certainly capable of achieving that (as last season proved yet again) although it would be hightly unlikely at this stage, granted

I think we ll all been spurs fans long enough to not write arsenal off at any point!

For them to go on a run like that now though, after losing to us and probably to bm, would be exceptional, especially without an exceptional player like rvp.

Of course they can do it, and of course their season is far from over, and of course they will run us hard to the finish line...I just cannot see us not finishing in the top 4 this season. There seems to me to be a new resolve, durability and attitude, merged with the pain Daws, Bale, Defoe, Lennon, Walker and BAE will have felt (I'd include Ade in that but I'm not sure what he feels these days - abused I suppose LOL)...honestly? Of all the players we have who I think will be the difference, Hugo Lloris is the main one. It still amuses and astounds me that Wenger did not move for him...no, I think they will win a lot of games between now and the end of the season, but I think we will simply stay ahead of them, although there will be a squeaky bum time.

Sorry, but without the distraction of Europe, Arsenal could easily win 7 or 8 of their last 10.
Anyone who thinks they can't is deluded. Imagine what a lift they will get this weekend if we lose to Liverpool and they beat Swansea in their next game. Suddenly the gap is down to 4 points and with us still to play Chelsea and City, they will really fancy their chances.
Knowing what AVB is like, he will be working on the basis it is likely Arsenal will achieve a further 27 points and therefore he will be aiming for us to take a minimum of 21 from our last 10 games.
That is what we must aim for.

Just did the BBC predictor, was conservative with our results and ambitious with theirs and had us missing out by 1 point.

I had us losing or drawing every game except Fulham and Sunderland and them winning 7 of the last 10, only dropping points to Utd, Everton and Swansea

That gives me a warm cosy feeling as I can't see all our results being as bad as that and I definitely can't see theirs all being that good and they only got 1 point above us so as long as we can win 3-4 games and get a few draws that'll be enough I suspect.

Anyone spot this yesterday?

Arsenal plan 38m summer bid for Swansea Capatian Ashley Williams, though might have to fight competition from Liverpool

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/mar/05/ashley-williams-arsenal-transfer-swansea-city

Their next league game is against Swansea i believe. Could be some kind of mind game to distract the player and Swansea; though could all backfire as he might pay out of his skin to show he's worth it...could also be a kick up the backside to Vermaelen and co.

Interesting that they need to 'shore up the defence'; one that Wenger has built himself. Hopefully this story will lead to more questions from the fans about how all their defenders have turned to brick once they sign for Arsenal.

Confused me.

Then i read the article. :p

I highly doubt that it's anything more than a journo using the opportunity to fill some space in the paper.

He's had an awful record with centre backs recently... There's been a litany of them since Campbell; Djourou, Senderos, Gallas, Squillaci, Koscielny, Mertesacker all let go or not good enough. Vermaelen has had a poor season so they're really struggling for a decent partnership.

Bould has been brought in to help but they still look shaky. Long may it last.

Every time I look at our remainig fixtures compared to theres, it worries me. Considering they've played most of their difficult fixtures already and are only 7 points behind, have we underestimated their form this season? I say only 7 points because on the run were on, I would expect to be further ahead at this stage of the season.

especially considering they are in a supposed crisis

hopefully they'll start treating the league games like cup games

Defence has never been his forte. He inherited a top goalkeeper and back four when he got to Arsenal. He signed Campbell but that was a no brainer, every club in the world would have done that deal, on a free too!

There is no sequence of 10 consecutive games in their league season so far where they collected more than 20 points. It swayed between 12 and 20 pts to be precise. Why should a team that hasn't done particularly well so far and is trailing 4th place by 5 pts move into championship winning gear all of a sudden and collect 26 pts? They have a couple of tricky fixtures to play. And even if they are capable of beating everyone on their day. They won't beat nearly everyone over 10 games. No way.

Their best hope to play Champions League football next season is to move past Chelsea. They trail them only by 5 pts and Chelsea has plenty of difficult league games to play and is still engaged in domestic as well as European cup competitions. And Chelsea don't have a manager. At least not one who actually manges the team.

Is the answer, 'because that is what happened last season when, at about this stage, we all thought it couldn't happen'?!?!?

Arsenal can achieve a maximum of 77 points, but I think 70 should see us in the top 4. That means a minimum of 16 points from 10 matches for us.

how is this relevant? because its certainly not funny or amusing or witty.

Ok, seem to have upset one or two with that post last night.

The thinking behind it?..............

Arsenal going to Vietnam to play + One of the most famous ever images ever captured, the little Vietnamese girl running away in terror.

If it offended, that was not the intention. Was purely a jibe at Arsenal.............and a little dig at their manager due to the rumours (alleged).

However, may I point out that that very image has been used on this forum before, to great hilarity, in a photoshopped version with Wenger and Gary Glitter and Savile shown chasing same little girl down the street.

Don't recall any moans then.
