Hope this is true:

Guillem Balague speaks on David Villa to Arsenal latest

Spanish pundit Guillem Balgue has delivered his verdict on David Villa signing for Arsenal.

When it comes to Spanish football, few pundits are as well placed and knowledgable as Sky pundit Guillem Balague.

Balague was on top of Cesc Fabregas' departure from Arsenal from the moment he informed the club he wanted to leave, to the moment he arrived in Barcelona.

Now he has delivered the low-down on David Villa's potential switch to Arsenal ahead of deadline day, reacting to reports on Goal.com that the Gunners have entered negotiations with Barcelona.

Sadly it is not news Gunners fans will want to hear, despite their wishes to seal a remarkable deal for Spain's all-time record goalscorer.

Here's what he had to say on his Twitter page this evening:

David Villa and Barcelona: the Catalan club tell me they have no intention of selling the player. Case close till the summer then
8:52 PM - 28 Jan 13

Is it really case closed? Who do you believe?

Villa started at the weekend for Barcelona in their 5-1 win over Osasuna, and although he did not score, he put in a more impressive performance than in recent games.

Barcelona face Real Madrid in 'El Clasico' on Wednesday night, 24 hours before the transfer deadline in the Copa del Rey semi-final, and would prefer to do without the distraction.

It makes sense they would try to nip speculation in the bud early, and have maintained throughout this window Villa is not for sale, so it wouldn't surprise us at all if Balague is accurate.

The summer? That's a different matter... Of course, Arsenal fans shouldn't give up, it may be Barcelona's idea to feed Balague false information to drive Villa's price up as a negotiating tactic.

We'll only know for certain on February 1st. It could be an interesting few days.

Will Villa head to Arsenal or do you believe Balague there is no chance of a deal?

lol

start piece by lauding Balague's credentials as a credible Barca source, get quote from Balague contrary to your desired headline, finish piece by ignoring Balague's opinion and suggesting he may be being duped to up the price

quality journalism right there

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has ruled out the prospect of securing David Villa before the transfer deadline because "Barcelona don't want to sell".

Hopefully that's the end of that chapter.

Didn't Mancini say Balotelli wouldn't be sold?

Hard to believe what any manager says during a transfer window.

There really needs to be questions asked if they get Villa and we don't sign a striker.

Hard to believe what anybody says. I find the "No smoke without fire" motto works in most cases, though. Of course, there are smoke and mirror tricks..but that's a different kettle of fish.

Yeah, it's a strange concept, but managers aren't employed to keep the fans updated on injuries and transfer activity. It's actually part of their job to reveal as little as possible of what goes on behind the scenes.

Does that mean that if they don't get Villa the questions will stop? Or was the middle part of that sentence just superfluous?

Loads of smoke without fire in the transfer windows.

It should be. But fans like news. Any news.

.

Well you seem to think we can get by with Sig who doesn't score, Adebayor who doesn't score (this season anyway), Dempsey who we still haven't seen the best from and Defoe who tends to dry up in the second half of the season.

I think most Spurs fans can see that we need another striker and will be unhappy if we don't get one. But they will be even more disgruntled if we don't get a forward AND arsenal get a top forward like Villa. Does that answer your question?

So we've bid for Villa whilst giving Bale first refusal? flimflam.

His wife had a kid a few days ago, he isn't leaving, not until the summer anyway.
