Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

I don’t even qualify for new style jobseekers after working for a firm for 18 months because in the most recent two full tax years one had less than 20 weeks stamp.

The 35 years prior don’t come into it. Nor does the fact I worked continuously for 18 months either side of caring duties.

It’s hardly going to break the bank at £76 a week net of tax for six months max (about £2500 max). I could claim carers allowance but that is even less than new style job seekers.

Some bold statements of intent from Burnham in his speech today.
Sounds good on the whole but he’s going to have to do a lot of persuading and have a very clear vision for implementation after the next election.

Nice to see a bit of vision but lacking in detail like how it will all be paid for.

More to the point there's 3 years left if they want it with a massive majority, I'd quite like to hear what they have planned for now because there's hundreds of things to sort and seemingly no plan for them.

I know he said there won't be an early election but I'm betting there's one in 2028, in the current spending plans there's cuts in most departments in 28/29 and they'll want to avoid those.

It seems to have gone quiet on him taxing the super rich. Looks instead like he’s going after sectors of society further down the pecking order.

Some good ideas, but I’ll wait to see how they’re funded - and if they actually ever happen - before getting too excited.
