The Centre Forward thread

Can he control and pass a football?
He’s not the long-term answer by any stretch but does offer a lot more physicality in the lone CF role than Richy for sure.

If he’s the last option available on 8/31 @ 6pm I’d consider bringing him in. However, once we get better at playing through a press and pinning teams back, he is definitely not what we are looking for.

Have we got the worst front 3 out of the top 10 teams in the prem?

Obviously take away the injured players as i feel Odobert and Kudus bring alot more than Moore and Tel.

It’s not our starting front 3, especially now we have Savinho and Marmoush (apparently) joining.

Leaving them out of it, if we can get Kudus, Solanke and Madders back soon the picture looks a lot rosier.

I've had a suspicion we'll go for Mateta for a while...especially Gakpo does not happen. I cannot remember how Mateta is defensively, but I think being able to field a 6ft 4" CF against the likes of Arsenal and other bigger, more physical teams would be a massive advantage in how the league currently is, especially if we have to go long to avoid the press/keep teams honest with regards to always trying to play out of it. In fact with speed on either wing, it could be a very, very smart buy given that is able to hold the ball up so well too...

Licking my lips at just the thought of it.

I like the thinking but on the times I’ve seen him, which I grant is not all that many, his hold up play was akin to Richy’s ie non-existent. He may just have been having a bad day, so I’ll try and not retain that bias should he sign. He’s definitely a goal threat and an outlet though, but he needs service. Hopefully Marmoush and Savinho could provide that and it would possibly benefit Marmoush having someone to play off too.

I concur on this point, that I do like that he’d bring presence to the team as we’re shaping up to be really quite weak in that regard outside of the CBs.

There isn’t a really strong hold up striker that we could get that’s available imo
Someone like Alvarez who I think is a top player is not someone who holds the ball up in the way we’re used to here
It’s a worrying trend in modern football that a real number 9 is dying as a player

I would personally still go for Balogun, I think he's a good physical option for us and a decent age. He now won't be the primary striker so I think he'd be a very good squad option to have. He has the bonus of he can control the ball.

De Zerbi rates Solanke, but obviously he needs to be fit and up to speed pretty quickly. I'm pretty sure we won't be signing another forward if Marmoush arrives, unless we can shift Richarlison before the deadline.

A olayer that I would imagine would cost a similar amount (maybe a bit more) but has a MUCH bigger upside is Christian Kofane at Bayer Leverkusen. Only 20 and borderline good enough already for the PL but I think in 2 or 3 years time he could be in the best 10 in the world.

He ig big, physical, fast, holds the ball up well and is a good finisher. He’s not a good dribbler and nor is he a creative player but I think we’ll be getting that from the wings instead.
