It’s my silly game to say that I think signing players who have already proven they can handle the pace and physicality of the PL is less of a gamble? I’m not sure what even makes that a game, let alone a silly one?

I thought the silly game was naming selective players to try to prove/disprove the above but I suppose the rules for this silly game are set by you ;)
All hail our new CEO and owners.

what @MartyFunkhouser said

I'm not saying you are saying this, but there has been an attitude of "we are finally doing things properly and matching the wages, everything is going to be fine" but just paying better wages doesn't necessarily get you better players

Hmmm….I think I probably am saying that to be honest!

Like I get more goes into it. They have to be right for the system. They have to compliment each other. They have to have the right attitude. But fundementally I am way happier signing these players than I was before, and as long as we can sustainably afford the wages, I want to keep signing these sorts of players where we can and when we need.

Fair enough, I’d much rather we find the value in the market and exploit it.

Sorry but I just don't think that adds up.

Levy had sole control of how Spurs spent their money. He had loaded the board with 'yes men' (and women) so that he could be sole decision maker. Joe Lewis was happy with this because, as I said before, his net worth was growing nicely (along with Levy's).

When ownership transferred to Joe Lewis' children the ambition changed. Having an ambition of winning as many trophies as possible probably doesn't tie in very well with an ambition of growing net worth as much as possible. Levy effectively had complete control over how the club spent it's money. Therefore the new owners brought in new people to dilute Levy's power and then ousted him. They now have a CEO who is aligned to their (new) objectives.

Is their objectives getting the club relegated because they almost done it last season.
