Pre Season Thread

At present we have 8 central midfield options….

Tonali
Fernandes
Gallagher
Gray
Maddison
Bentancur
Bergval
Sarr

We will still have ample options even if two are sold, especially with no European football.
I wouldn't be counting Gallagher or Maddison as CMs as they are AMs.

That leaves 6 actual CMs, if that reduces to 4 then we could make do but I think we'd prefer to have 5 options for 2 places.

I'd imagine come the start of next season the bottom 3 on that list will be gone and we'd have a pool of Tonali Fernandes Gray + 2 new guys.

If I was organising a PL team to come for a tour and play some games and they bought an u21 side I would be worried about getting sacked for making that contract! I get that a small number of WC players cant be there but still... its basically Gray captaining a youth side.

I think there's a very real chance that Archie is DeZerbi's 'other' RB should we get offered good money for Spence. And is it just me or does Archie look like he's filled out a little bit more? In a positive way...

RE: Rashford, given that we are currently engaging in the 24 month model, I think he'd be a great addition to this squad IF he is motivated; where I am not sure DeZerbi would is off-the-ball work.

IF we could engineer some sort of Romero for Martinez deal with Inter, that would be pretty epic...

Developing Luca Williams Barnett properly is so important; he is a great talent. I think he can really become a star player (17 years old FFS), but must get rid of that chin feret!

Watching Spurs live at midday is weird. Should be a tough test, a very young team up against a very good Auckland team (although just lost their coach). 3-2 win I think.

Pitch looks like natural grass and slippery due to the rain.

Auckland is perfectly set up to counter de Zerbi build up from the back and through the middle as the third man is constantly under pressure.

Boys are trying but the midfield is so crowded. Very obvious are the wing forwards calling for through balls when the CBs have the ball. Wing backs also look ready to overlap them.

Boys are doing well against men

How is the performance? I just woke up about ten minutes ago. In the UK so it’s now 4:49am, don’t know how those of you elsewhere in the World wake up at 3am etc to watch us play regularly.

Spurs in control and Auckland only managed to power a threat by long balls behind the defenders.

Plenty of action up front, but gray and donley so good in positioning, movement, covering and leading by example. A couple of shots from donley pure quality.

Lwb and Moore saw a lot of action but lost the ball plenty too , mostly due to the wet pitch.

Defence looks organised in possession but leaves a huge gap behind which Austin looks great sweeping and closing down quickly.

Thanks. Sounds promising, especially about Donley given he seems like a player De Zerbi likes.

I watched the goal back and saw it was a rebound strike. Nice positioning and awareness by Scarlett.

Seems like we want to play a bit higher defensive line now. Good thing we have VDV pace when season starts. I hope his hamstrings stays strong.

2-0 end result

Youngsters held their own in first half (we were the better team both halves), seems RDZ is keeping senior players in cotton wool.

Scarlett was active, could have had at least one more. Richi was Richi, a pest, won ball back, should have had an assist to go with his poacher's goal. Donley had a better game than he did vs. MK Dons.

Tel probably best player on both sides in his cameo

Richy scored?

Thoughts and prayers for the Spurs fans desperate to see him gone, who've spent a fair chunk of the summer whining about him instead of touching grass.

I thought gray and donley were the standouts in the first half, Tel the second.

Solomon, takai and Austin HD good games too.
