Djed Spence

When Spence joined I felt sorry for him - hung out to dry as an unwanted "club buy". At his best he is great, but his dissing of Thomas Frank put a question mark in my mind. If the score was still 0-1 when he played the ball backwards and provoked Tuchel's ire, I can understand him playing safety first and not wanting to lose possession. I think Tuchel will need him at some stage of the game in Mexico.
He isn’t the only English player to be playing too conservatively with their passing…it is prevalent throughout the squad.

Too many players are playing league-football instead of tournament-football. You can see the pressure on them to not f***-up as opposed to taking higher-risk chances. If we are to progress much further we need to make vertical and diagonal passes a lot quicker before the opposition can settle into their defensive schemes.

And thr fact Spence was nowhere near fault for the goal but in so many channels got hung out. Not saying there is an agenda but he seems an easy player to be down on. Our fans did it long before he kicked a ball at Spurs
His face doesn't fit for whatever reason, it also doesn't really help that he played as a RB but no one outside of Spurs or even in Spurs tbh has ever actually seen him play RB. It's not a position the wider public are now associating with him. They saw him as a LB backup not a RB who has played at LB to help out injury crisis.

He also filled in at LW and RW when required and performed admirably both times with no complaint whatsoever.

But he has a bad attitude 🤦‍♂️

he's a RB but ange changed that. not sure why porro has kept him out, last season porro was poor

It wasn’t at fault for the goal but he was shaky for the rest of the first half until the water break then settled in to the game. But the team very clearly improved once he came off.

Almost everyone/everything improved after the hydration break.

Correlation does not equal causation. Lots of things changed in the end section of the game. Perhaps removing Rice from the central midfield so he couldn't slow the game down was key????

I don't know what the fuss is about Spence, he's fine as a squad player and the fact he can appropriately cover both sides of the pitch at full back is great.

But you watch Spence on the ball vs Porro on the ball and it's chalk and cheese and that's why Porro is first choice right back for every manager...

Conte, Mason, Ange, Frank, Tudor, DeZerbi
Again such selective 'fact' picking.

Spence coming off a Championship Young Player of the Year Award from promotion winning Forest was thrown under the bus by Conte in his power struggles as an 'investment in the future' and not one of his signings. Nothing Spence could have done to change Conte's opinion, even if he was the new Roberto Carlos Conte wouldn't have played him out of stubbornness in his position with the board.

Was out on loan for most of the next 18 months or out with a knee injury, which takes Mason out of your list.

There were issues at Leeds according to Farke so you could have him as a manager on your list who he didn't get on with, but then you would have to balance that with the Rennes guy and the Genoa guy who both were OK with him.

Can't see what issue he had with Franck. Tudor had issues with most players and they may (speculation) have fallen out over the Athletico Madrid fiasco and Tudor's handling of Kinsky.

What evidence do you have of him struggling with dezerbi?

I actually think RDZ will make or break Spence in the same way that Tuchel is doing in an England shirt.

All of these managers want to nurture the talent but it definitely feels like they are trying to get a mentality breakthrough with the guy.

RDZ didn't select Spence at the end of the season so much, but seemed quite happy to use him from the bench. The interesting thing is that Porro hasn't really had an extended break through injury. It's about the only position in the team where the next guy has had a chance to build a case to stay in the side. Spence has been feeding off Udogie's injuries and having to build his case that way. To me, it's always different when it's not your preferred position.

It's gonna be tough this season with only domestic football.

I don't expect Porro to be selected for every single game. even with the reduced schedule there will be rotation and that's when Spence will have to make his case. I don't get why anyone is acting like he will never see the pitch, now we actually have LB options RDZ will be free to use Spence on the right if he fills he's the best fit for a particular game, no one has previously had that chance because Spence has always been needed to ready to cover for LB.

The bloke appeared 79 times in all comps over the last two years, the idea that "managers don't trust him" when that has seen him make it into Englands World Cup squad just really endorses the level of bias views being loaded with falsehoods and crap.

Imagine how much a manager must trust you for him to pick you on the wrong side that doesn't even suit your game, and then to it again repeatedly. If that isn't trust I don't know what is.

RdZ loves quick passers, 1 and 2 touch, vision.

That sounds like a back 4 of Robbo - Senesi - VanHecke - Porro

Whereas a back 4 of Udogie - VdV - Danso - Spence is much more 'runners' than 'passers'.

I suppose he will mix things up so we have variety.

Watching Spain yesterday, you can see they are all passers, just popping it off and popping it off and almost back to tiki-taka play; the Austrian battlers couldn't get near them for large parts of the game and became exhausted.

The question is would we take money if an offer came in?
