@carl ’s post above, 1.57 ppg for the last 19 games of his first season, would average out to 59 points over a full league campaign. I’ve never understood the idea that we descended into relegation form. We simply didn’t maintain a crazy good start, and decided to roll about ten dice at once in the Chelsea game at home, none of which came off, and which we suffered the consequences of in terms of suspensions for a few games following.
The second season from November onwards was its own unique thing in terms of injuries and schedule, and still ending with a trophy. But I’m talking specifically about the first season which seems to have become accepted wisdom that we would have been relegated but for the first ten games. It’s just not the case.
