See this is why the debate rages on - 'season' to me refers to the whole package, this is our worst league performance in close to 100 years (statistically this is so, done the maths previously) and that can not be salvaged enough to say it has been a great/good season by a single cup win and I think people are being disingenuous to say it is.

The outcome will be great, the journey would not.

A cup win would be a great moment, it would be our single biggest moment since 91, maybe as far back as 84 - that is something worth celebrating and talking up for what it is and everyone should be willing to do so, should it happen. That doesn't equate to a great season.

Let's focus on that rather than trying to pretend that the last season (to 18 months) hasn't been awful.

It's not as black & white as that. For example if we had finished 6 or 7th playing good football with signs of improvement then I would probably rather that knowing that hopefully that would lead to further success.

Currently I do not enjoy watching us, see no signs of improvement and see no signs of that changing.

But on the flip side if we do win next week, it will go down as 1 of our greatest nights, but 1 night will not make up for 2 years

You are Ange in (if we win a one-off game, albeit we win a big trophy and get UCL)

I am Ange out (based on last season's league collapse and this season's largely horrific 38 league games and 20+ defeats).

Making an emotional decision based on a one off game is a bit mad considering how close we are to serious danger. If we were mid table I would be more where you are.

So my question is, what is going to change in the summer off season for us to be better in the league under Ange if we win EL? Because something HAS to change if we keep him. Will ENIC put in more investment in better players (i.e. wages)? No, not if history is to go by. Will we buy actual international level premier league quality players and not young prospects? Maybe one or two, not the five or six we need especially with UCL concerns. Will Ange get more coaching help like ten Hag did post FA cup win? Maybe, but what difference would it make.

I will still be supporting the team as I always do. I am still going to the last league game against Brighton whatever happens next week. And I will be staying for the pitch walkaround like I did for Kane's last league game against Brentford. There was about 3000 of us. I didn't boo, but I sung Levy out.

The Brighton game will either be a wake or a party/pitch invasion.

It's the difference between best and most successful. This is without doubt our worst season for decades, but it could be a successful one

If (and it is still a big if) we win the Europa league this season then Ange will have delivered 5th place and Europa League in season one and a trophy and CL qualification in season 2. Damn right I'd be slagging off Levy if he sacked him after that.

We're not close to serious danger. We are in 17th because there is no danger. We could quite conceivably have had a mid-table finish this season but I think it is abundantly clear that we have instead prioritised winning a trophy, which IMO was absolutely the right thing to do.

What is going to change next season? As far as I'm concerned if Ange repeated his record of 5th one season then trophy next season forevermore then I'd be ecstatic.

And what would be your perspective if he wins, he keeps his job and 10 games into next season we have lost 6 games?

Will you be slagging off Levy or are you going to support the decision?

Because I'll tell you what everyone else will be doing, including fans/media/pundits and hint, it's not going to be "it was a smart call to keep him"

And yet everyone who has eyes, or can read data, can see that it would be suicidal levels of negligence to do anything but get him out the door the second the plane back lands.
 
Jesus i can not believe some of the negative crap that i have just read over the last few pages. We are going to a fudging final of Europe and all i can see [from a few] is negative after negative about how poor we have been this season. NO ONE is happy about the season as a whole but for fudges sake we are going to a final and IF we win it it would be the first for a long time.

Why some fans have to be negative on the dawn of a major cup final is bewildering [ at least] and worrys me that some fans would rather see us lose the Ange win US a cup. :rolleyes:

Palace were not prioritising the FA Cup Final 4 days before our cup final by smashing us at our place then? So kind of a nonsense argument but let's say that's true. West Ham (who have spent a fortune) and Man United (likewise) are down there with us, so we can't all use that excuse of other priorities. It is a valid argument that the general levels of the league have dramatically increased and Spurs would be in serious danger of going down next season, especially if Ange prioritised Champions League the same way.

That really is burying your head deeply in the sand. This isn't a "record" its his second season. There is nothing to suggest we are on some two season spin cycle of 5th, trophy, 5th, trophy. We are on a regression cycle if anything, meaning next season = worse.

I'll be sticking to Ange out if that's the best anyone can come up with. Something has got to change significantly, and it has to be the coaching paradigm. Frank, Glasner, Poch (I know, world cup). For me all 3 of them have this current squad at least top half

In my adult lifetime the greatest moment i had as a spurs fan was probably the league cup win against chelsea.
the cl semi final may have trumped it but unfortunately the memory of madrid is attached to it now.

So if we win the europa league it would be the greatest night for me as a spurs fan( or early thursday morning as unfortunately i can’t go). However that doesn’t negate the fact that ange should still go because long term he isn’t competent enough at the highest level. The Europa League just doesn’t have teams of a high enough standard, that doesn’t diminish the euphoria of winning it but it does give me a pragmatic view on Ange’s quality.

Maybe another example would be if we had won the league cup this year after knocking out city, united, liverpool and then Saudi Sportswashing Machine in the final, it would have had given me far more faith in Ange’s long term capabilities than winning the Europa.

However if you gave em a choice between winning the league cup or the Europa Leaague, I would take the europa league every time.

As Ange would say, it’s not pythagoras theorem

Exactly where I am (the 2008 semi final against Ar5ens1 was as good as the final though, still the best game I ever saw live: in the Park Lane getting trampled when it went 4-0).

People are reacting to a common sense view of our league performance as unequivocal evidence he has to go with "BUTTT MAJOR TOPHEEEE YOU NOT REAL SPURS FAN".... right.

Ange is not Premier League level. His methods, tactics, or both are found out practically every match day. And, and, if we win that trophy he will also be our best in European knock out competitions since Keith B. But I don't want Keith B to be our prem manager in 2025/26, either.

My question would be when do people think this was from? Where were in the league and what was our form at the time for it to be put forward that we stopped trying in the league for this cup run.

Cause I can't pinpoint a time our league form worsened because of the chance of winning Europe. We've been brick in the league for an age.

I know what you mean. It seems just like another excuse for our poor league performances.

I think maybe the last 4 or 5 league games have been played with the EL games in mind - and rightly so. Before that? I don't think so.
