The Goon Thread - Officially Second In A One Horse Race

Linked with Sane today . Arteta spent a load of money last season to . Where’s it all coming from ? Saka to City possibly . They will be looking to replace Sterling.

I can’t see how they could buy all these players this summer, for the prices being suggested and stay within FFP, unless they are going to sell someone big?

There is no ffp anymore. It has been replaced with sustainability rules. There is a thread on it and swiss ramble has done a piece showing roughly how it will effect clubs but that will only be enforced next summer.

One last hurrah then before the new rules come in. Would the new sustainable rules prevent a team from spending net 150-200m in a transfer window going forward?

Depends how much revenue they make. How long the contracts are. How much they've spent previously. Just read the bit by swiss ramble.

Below suggests the goons would be in breach in the scenario I mentioned. No way their revenue with being out of the CL for GHod knows how many years would allow a 200m net spend which they are on course for this window, if they get their reported targets. On top of the money they’ve spent on recent windows as well.

“The biggest change in the new rules is the introduction of squad cost control with the ratio of player wages, transfers & agent fees being limited to 70% of revenue & profit on player sales. This is similar to a European Super League guidelines, though its ratio was lower at 55%.”

Read the whole thing.

It starts at 90% the first year. Then drops to 80% the second. Then 70%.

The revenue for the 20/21 are massively reduced due to covid. So he looks at 18/19 to get a better idea.

That’s before this window. Wonder what the ratio would be like at the end of this summer? Still not near 90% though I guess.

seems like they’re giving teams a virtual free hit for a few years then? Might explain the timing of Enic’s 150m. I’d have thought now is the time for Saudi Sportswashing Machine to splash their cash as well before these rules get “serious”.
