Fabio Paratici - Consultant

He can't play for us this season. We put out a feeler bid to test the water to see how much they want. Go back in summer.

Could it backfire? Yes.

If we went in with £15m boro would have asked for £20m. That's how it goes.

So for the sake of £5m we walked away? Grealish comes to mind

I think this past transfer window when our top targets went elsewhere and we got the juve fire sale players might have accounted for some of the depressed, turgid, sloppy performances the past two games.

Think they both look better than what went to be fair . Bentacur looks a player.

Issue I have is we did not really address problems with these two signings. We need to spend a lot of money. Not going to happen . We have just wasted so much on junk.

Anyway ENIC are bidding for the Super Bowl far more important for the club.

We addressed one problem with Bentacur. Halves the incoming transfer work we need to do in the centre of midfield this summer.

If the Lo Celso and Ndombele loans are made permanent then we are a lot more likely to see a lot of changes in the summer

Problem is we are miles off . Lots of business to be done .

Agreed. Our January business, both incomings and outgoings, were decent

The problem as you say is that we're so far off where we want to be. Out our our outfield 10 today, only 4 (Kane, Son, Bentancur, Romero) would make it into the matchday squad of the top 3 teams. The other 6 wouldn't even make their benches IMO. As Conte has said, we need consistent investment overall several windows

The fact we are still watching some players starting and getting regular minutes who were once bench warmers says a lot about our business . Yes money has been spent but so so poorly . 3 recent signings went this window.

There’s no doubt the football side of things has been run poorly for a time and it’s biting us hard now.

The money we need to spend will take more than the summer window. The rot is here for a few to come .

Yep. The consolations are that:

(i) we now have a DoF to look after transfers. Not having one is crazy in my view - its like tech company not having a Chief Technology Officer
(ii) given Hitchen going and Paratici and Conte arriving, the team primarily responsible for transfers now shouldnt be tied to the mistakes of the past and will ditch players asap if they're not right, rather than hang on to them such that their previous decisions aren't questioned
(iii) I dont believe COnte would have joined without assurances over spending

Its going to take time, but maybe if we can bring in 5 players this summer and the same the summer after, perhaps then we can be more competitive. Saudi Sportswashing Machine and Man U are likely to be strongerby then though....

Hugo is well up there despite today. How many bad games had he had over the last 12 months? Less than Alisson I'd bet.

Reguilon is up there too and I reckon with coaching, Sess would be too.

Sadly that is true.

Maybe not the best time for it but what’s with you not using the reply / quote button? Took me a while to realise you’d lifted the text from AdamB’s post above, I thought you were just verbally agreeing with yourself (not an uncommon trait on here thinking about it..)

Hugo would make the bench of the top 3 agreed. Would Reggie get ahead of Zinchenko at Emirates Marketing Project or Alonso at the Russians? Not sure. Agreed that he and Sess have potential though - LWB isn't a position which I have any concerns over

Would have, yes, now i can't see it for kane and certainly not son.

While I agree Bentancur played well today, he is still a question Mark. Juventus let him go for 19m, thats a big statement. Inter fans were laughing at the dumb team who spent that much on low level Bentancur. He is yet to prove himself worthy to be in the same sentence as the other 3. He was today.

I believe his fee was lower and Kulu's higher because Bentancur had a sell-on fee...therefore Juve got more by skewing the fees this way

Is Bentancur a world beater? No, and if he was then we probably wouldnt have been able to sign him. Is he probably/possibly better than we have in PEH and Winks. Almost certainly. Plus Conte wants him (presumably!) which is pretty darn important

Our LWB’s are dreadful.
I believe we will need a newbie for this position.
Was reading Real ‘may’ take Regi back, in my opinion no great loss!
Reggie is a good player. Played very well at Sevilla too. I think he îs good enough for our team to not look at this position în the next transfer markets, if he stays. We have bigger problems în the centre and on the right.
