Next Manager?

The question for me at the root of all this current rumour-stacked situation still remains: why was Jose sacked at that exact time he was, rather than two/three weeks earlier or just after the League cup final?

Back on here after a long long absence... exactly a fortnight ago I was told that Poch was unhappy in Paris and was being lined up by Madrid. The source was extremely credible. As Zidane was still in the job I was dubious but it seems like there might have been some substance in it.

Probably more likely than Poch returning to Spurs right now. Not sure anyone involved in his return would be sure how to spin it. It would be 'safe' but rather uninspiring/embarrassing. I think most would deal with it quite happily. Effectively he would have been on a sabbatical.

- Money?
- Players had enough?
- He said some brick to Levy?
- Roma was sniffing and they mutually agreed?

Does it matter?

Yes; we've played out the remainder of the season with a rookie who effectively just played his mates. We went into a cup final against Pep with same rookie.
The decision was fine, he timing very VERY odd considering how the season and manager search seems to be panning out. If we were going to announce someone very shortly afterwards it made sense. But denying said 'trophy manager' the opportunity to get another trophy FOR US without seemingly some kind of plan seems not to say well for the club hierarchy.
I mean they had ample chances to sack him weeks before...

I know that it has no real weight but Pochettino currently odds on favourite to take the job. #justsayin

Tbh, maybe Poch is using us to get assurances from PSG that Neymar will be sold and he'll be given the money to make direct changes to their team...

What would be inspiring?

- Potter/Parker types won't "inspire", aren't necessarily ambition
- Conte or any level like that is short term, will have English media on their back in a flash, won't unite fans
- Rodgers is probably smartest move on paper, but would be extremely expensive and has same question mark about ceiling/bottling at top step (is also not the greatest personality)

A big part that no one is talking about is Son/Kane/Lloris

- Poch on his own may not be entirely inspiring (I'd argue he would be a hit with a lot of fans if not all)
- If he made the difference re Kane/Son/Lloris committing to staying, new contracts, then it would be a brilliant signing (not saying he makes it happen, but it's one of those criteria we simply don't have line of sight to.

My only slight worry about Poch’s return is that he hated PSG so much that he won’t have pressed Levy to fund a rebuild. But that doesn’t seem terribly likely and overall today’s speculation is far more exciting than yesterday’s Conte stuff. Not going to believe it until I see Poch pose with Poch for the photo, though.

haha, he has zero leverage on PSG mate, they don't give a fudge, if he told them that, they would be "we fudging dare you"

That's why potentially the "nightmare" of Levy is better, he's respected by Levy and part of decisions (he was given input on stadium design)

He is busy ironing his suit.

Honestly, he'd be better off waiting for the Manure job...that would be much better than being seen to go back to where you fell out with the hierarchy whilst publicly asking them "to act like a big club"...he us at said "big club" for better or worse so looks like he's failed and not good enough at a "big club"
