I don't know if he has actually said that but if so then there's only really Milan as a viable option for him, although I think their president said recently they won't be spending much this summer, could be lying though obviously.

They also said if they do not get an acceptable bid for Lloris that he would be staying at Lyon until next summer. Maybe he will stay if a top 5 club does not come in for him?

He'll have a long wait then as Barca, Madrid, Bayern, Utd, City, Chelsea, Inter and Juve are all set at GK. He's also said he wouldn't join PSG and Lyon wouldn't allow him to either so I guess his options right now are Spurs, possibly Milan or stay with Lyon. I don't buy the Arsenal interest personally, think it's just a case of him being good and French so they're automatically linked.

Twitter peeps saying Freund back to the Lane as part of AVB's staff !!!!

Also, speaking of keepers - anyone know if McGregor at Rangers is any good? I believe he is out of contract after not moving over to NewCo. Wasnt long ago he was talked about as a £10m keeper (not that Ive seen him play)

I've heard that McGregor is a nutter. I proper mental case. Best to steer clear.

I thought he only wanted to join 1 of the 5 biggest teams in Europe? Surely ourselves and Arsenal do not stand a chance?

Personally I am not bothered either way, but remind me, who are the 5 biggest teams in Europe? Take into consideration neither Barca or Madrid have plans for a new first choice keeper any time soon? I doubt Man Ut d will be in for him nor Bayern as they are spent big on keepers last summer? Methinks Juve are happy with Buffon...........

That's a pretty ridiculous statement, Lloris is 25, has played over 150 times for Lyon, won goalkeeper of the year in France numerous times, has been nominated for best goalkeeper in Europe, is captain of his country ... but 19yr old Jack Butland whose career to date is 24 games for Cheltenham is the better option? :-s

Flapped at a cross at the Euros though...

Milan could do with an upgrade i think and lets face it Buffon is not getting any younger.

Just out of interest why is this the best week? I have viewed it as someone in who needs to 'repair' his reputation, got in a midfielder who barely is excitin and gettin Caulker on a longer contract.

Am I excited? Not so much but I'm hopeful and lookin forward to the next seven weeks of the window which will determine my excitement level.

I think this is true, most people are excited about what lies ahead not what has happened already.

Sigurdsson is good, but we're already lost Ade (might sign him again of course), King and it looks likely that we might lose Modric. Sigurdsson excites me, but he's not enough to offset what we've lost already.

The seemingly credible rumours about players like Vertonghen, Ade, Moutinho, Sahin, Oscar, Lloris and so on is what's exciting people I think.

Are people seriously advocating Butland over Lloris? Butland might be a nice prospect, but Lloris is one of the best keepers in the world. You all sound like Liverpool fans after they lost Sigurdsson. Don't be silly.

how about our dear gomes? would he be given a chance to prove himself? i believe he started football in Brazil as an outfield player before settling in at GK, and as with most brazillians, he should be comfortable with the ball. best of all he seems all too eager to come off his line!

Pre-season hasn't even started yet and we're making moves in the transfer market. One player in, lots of others (Verts, Oscar, Ade, Fryers, Lascelles, Butland, Lloris to name some) rumoured to somewhere from bids gone in to done. It might be a bit of premature exitement as we no longer rely on whatever names the journos pulled out of a hat to put on the back page, but instead get the heads up early on about our targets and frequent(ish) updates from there on. The official announcements become more of a 'finally' than 'wow'.

Amazed at the number of people even comparing Butland to Lloris and advocatign a big (for a keeper) money purchase of him. Right now there just isnt a comparison, and I bet most havent even seen Butland play.

Bonkers

Well they would be two entirely different signings, wouldn't they? One is a mature player to go straight into the first team for £15m - in a position we need to fix but could probably leave for another season - the other a kid for the future for £7m who'd be loaned back out. If you bought Lloris, that would pretty much rule out buying Butland or any ambitious young keeper. So the idea that it's a straight choice between the two is probably sound.

As for Lloris himself, I can only call what I've seen and while he seems a stunning shot-stopper, he just does not seem the commanding figure you'd want in the EPL. I could be wrong on that, but that's what I've seen.

Any links to him being an outfield player in the past? To me he looks way too poor on the ball to have been an outfield player, could just about kick the ball past the half way line from a goal kick from what I remember. One of the reasons I don't think AVB will be trusting Gomes.
