like i said in an earlier post we didn't do enough in the first leg to suggest we can go out there and get a result with any deal of certainty, especially without a strong side - plus i would imagine Mourinho knows a poor league performance and no trophy would leave his job in the balance - so he needs to ensure we go through

Two points:
1) wow - Kane starting! Shows priorities now
2) Surely his head has been super-imposed on someone else's body in that photo??! Doesnt look real

Wouldn’t say it’s a big shock, Mourinho had said previously Vinicius would have to play more in the league as Kane starts featuring in the Europa. And it’s dangerous to start with the big boys on the bench, we’ve done it before and bought them on and to no effect because once the opposition is on top it’s tougher to wrestle the ascendency back. It’s safer to start strong and get the job done ie score and then take them off early....

No messing about with a weaken team, this tournament is our best chance to get a CL place next season and we should play it that way.

that post makes it sound like you value the CL qualification higher than the trophy itself...

;)

If somehow we don't progress in this one then do you think that Levy would pull the plug on Jose?
I think there’s probably at least a couple more games, dependent on Levy’s threshold:
Is the minimum requirement for this season:
Win any trophy, even Carabao
Qualify for CL, through League
Quality for Europa, through league
Qualify for CL, via Europa irrespective of league placing
No Europe in any form, no trophy, lowest league finish without a trophy since 2004 since but finish above Goons
Keeps job regardless as too expensive to sack him

is there any other scenario? Might start a poll!

Which may be the only way Mourinho keeps his job. The last thing he will want to do is risk going out when 3 points against Villa probably won’t change that much in evaluating the whole season’s outcome.

I wouldn't start Ndombele either BUT

He sat out the Palace game and then played 70mins against Zagreb last week and 60 mins against the Goons....at this stage of the season that's the most rest a ( fit) player can expect.

He is so fragile though. He got a real kicking in the first game which I suspect impacted his performance at the death star. I wouldn't even take him. Maybe give Lo Celso some minutes to see if he can take it.

Not sure fragile is fair. He's gone from not being fit enough to play, to being fit enough to play for an hour as a #10 to being fit enough to play 90 minutes consecutive games the same week deep in midfield. He's improved his fitness levels massively.

Against Zagreb he was fouled a lot, but kept wanting the ball and taking players on knowing he would probably get fouled again, knowing it could be rough tackles. Even when subbed it was probably about resting him, but because he couldn't go on.

That being said it's probably unfair to expect his fitness levels to be truly top notch. I think that might only happen after another preseason, particularly as he's playing quite a lot these days. He should be managed accordingly.

I think we need him on the bench if we get into trouble though. I suspect he might start though if Mourinho is to be taken seriously on his pre match comments.

It could come down to belief. If we start well and push them back they may fold.
If we allow them to push us back and start passing it around and getting shots in they will massively fancy it and go for it.

I wonder if their situation with Mamic/Danchev/new boss will give them a bounce or the opposite effect
