*** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Crystal Palace FC ***

Having now watched the goals again, how livid would we be if our defenders gave attackers as much space as Bale and Kane got for the 1st and 4th goals? Poor defending or good movement? Maybe a bit of both.

It's probably also a result of attacking in numbers with several goal threats - can't double up on Kane, Sonny AND Bale! Demands high concentration levels from opposing defenders, all game.

It's the fact that you effectively have 5 attackers on the pitch

- Kane, Son, Bale, Lucas, Reguilon

Each of them will fudge you up if you are left 1:1 against them

- Add the pace, add the fact that the front 4 will go left/center/right it's a nightmare.

But I think there was a lesson, if we moved the ball slowly Palace was reasonably comfortable, the minute we hit the one time passes, switched sides, it tore them apart.

But you only play like that with confidence and capability
We couldn’t do that with lamela starting as his nature style is to take as many touches as he can. TBF that’s Mouras game too but he is playing more reactively now so he isn’t “thinking”

I think the 4th spot works with Lamela/Dele/Lucas and will probably work with Lo Celso

Lamela created the last goal, Dele scored in last game, Lo Celso already has 5 goals despite not playing half the season.

As I said earlier, the weak links are clear, it isn't in the AM/ST positions

He owned it, in interview actually said he lost the ball, his fault.

To me, he's making a case for that 4th spot, his pace, workrate and directness adds something, good game today.

Have not seen that but brilliant, that he admits it is everything. He won't do it again. I have to say, he is really forcing me to eat a bit of humble ie, and good for Mourinho for seeing his best position. I think the fact he has Kane and now Bale dropping in and deep helps him hugely.

I'd normally agree with you, we do like ourselves a spacegoat here.

I'd say, what I've seen is Jose is finding not only the attacking balance but a balance where we can rotate a couple of players without the performance falling off a cliff. But it is becoming clear where the weakest links in The nickname that will never catch on are (painfully so)

Dier, Doherty, Winks, Sissoko, Davies are weakest part of the squad. Does it mean they can't have a good game? = no, they can and we need them to. But does it mean people will probably notice their errors more, forgive it less vs. other players? = sure

I look at today's game re Doherty (and Winks), did I think Doherty had a mare? = no. If I named my best 6 players in the match, is he (or Winks) on the list? = no. Others will probably be more critical, some 3 weeks ago said Bale was washed up ..

I have enjoyed most of our football for the last few weeks, even before the wins, the performances have definitely been on the up, long may it continue

Credit to our pragmatic manager (now his top brass attackers are nearing full cylinder, he's trusting them and us). I am delighted.

Someone posted the interview on the Moura thread. Having watched it, he's going to get my MotM vote. So much pressing and running, which gave our more storied attackers the platform to play.

So many positives from this game.

Can only sum it up by saying that it's looked like we've been clicking into gear in the last month or so, yesterday it looked like we had clicked onto gear. Great performance (will always be a couple of sticking points).

Loved seeing us play that well without playing our strongest 11. 4-5 players at least that could have started if fit and not rotated out and either made us stronger or at the very least made us close to as good.

Some stunning goals too. Finding and making those passes inside the box, so much awareness and unselfishness. Particularly Kane, but it will always be particularly Kane cause he's particularly great.

Crosding my fingers that we can keep up this kind of form for a while.

It's the balance of finally have a threat from the right hand side. It's something we've pretty never had since Bale left. We've tried Lamela, Moura, Bergwijn, GLC etc etc but none can consistently provide a genuine threat from that side.

It gives the opposition so much more to think about when they have worry about gaps across their backline. Also with Bales passing ability he can did spread the play to open players regularly. Reguillion on the left is going to be absolutely killer with Bale either cutting and playing or spreading out wide to him in miles of space and we all know how good Reguillion's crossing is.

Oh I know, but it was I was alluding to the fact one of his former teams (which he seemed to enjoy playing for) dethroned their biggest rivals. I just thought it might have put him in a better mood.

It seems his beloved Liverpool losing at home again dampened any good spirits he had
He had bee in bonnet that’s all. Us (me) old tits can be like that!

You need players like him in a team! He won the ball back so many times it was ridiculous! And it fires up the rest of the team too! You can say a lot about Lucas Moura, but lazy isn't one of them!
He drives me nuts (aka mr tumble by me)but he was superb today!

He is a good foil for the ball players in attack with his hard work off the ball, it probably covers for Bales lack of contribution in this area tbf - it also shows we don't need a player in that area to 'dominate possession' or have to worry about 'clashing with Son' by getting close to Kane.
