OOMT - Tottenham vs Emirates Marketing Project

Thankfully none of my brighton supporting mates read this forum, I would be laughed at for suggesting it but Dunk is actually a solid defender and a leader. He also talks the whole game which none of our players ever do. I can also see why the persistent links to Diop at West Ham.
Dunk is sound
He really is
Does the basics
Diop is one that Jose liked for a while
I mean there are better players out there that are gettable

If you look at the periods leading up to when managers leave their clubs/get sacked i think that player mistakes would be a common theme across the board
It's particularly concerning that some posters are entirely laying the blame at the squad's door. Yes we can upgrade on the likes of Sissoko, Davies and Sanchez. But there is some real talent in that team and it has already had a significant refresh from the team that played the Champions League Final. Jose is a major part of the problem because we do not look like a well drilled team where everyone knows their role but rather like a collection of individuals. Then he seems to be publicly telling off players which was unacceptable when Sherwood did it but ok when Jose does it?

We will have to look to other teams rejects not just in the uk but in Europe as well. The was a danish kid at celtic who was fairly highly rated, maybe if they dont make europe this season they will have to sell. I dont know if chelsea would sell or loan to us, but that taco Ruddgier might be an option. Mourinho i think would love to prove people wrong and make us a success. It would cement his legacy and reputation.

We will have to do deals and be very creative, I imagine the search is going on now full throttle. I just hope we can shift some of the dead wood. Really wished we could have loaned out Rodon just for the rest of the season, 20 games in the prem could have done him the world of good.

I am less sad now about the squad and am quite excited for a rebuild, just hope we scout properly and show some intelligence. I never wanted bale back and still think it was a poor signing. It is not like 10 years ago when top teams could make poor signings and get away with it, the league is so competitive that you really have to be clever in every action.

It's going to be more of the same going forwards and is still a fair bit more than the years preceeding him so if he can't make it work with that then...
Personally id bet he will be backed with a CB and will recruit in the AM department too and a couple of smart purchases in key positions could make a massive difference. Not even sure it would cost huge sums to rectify, but let’s see...

The way people are talking that is not going to be near enough to progess under him?

GK 2x CBs RB DM AM all being mooted as requirements before we can expect to see us play how he wants.

All genuine winners too

Nah mate the squad is gash and has been getting worse year on year. The champs league was great and everything, but people are turning it into this holy grail type thing when in actual fact we just put together 3 good games in a favourable cup run. Getting to the champs league final does not mean a great deal in itself, it did not make this team special just to get there.

Yep. Liverpool went from 4th to 2nd and then champions with essentially two key purchases. Ideally we need 2x CB’s but hopefully we can get lucky and find one top CB which elevates the player next to him. Definitely need a top player to go alongside son and Kane though. We’ve tried Bergwijn, Lamela, Bale and Moura and none of them have made that position theirs.

The biggest issue is still getting rid of the dead wood
It’s been a problem for ages
It’s hurt the club
To give it some context Everton signed King from Bournemouth for £6m on a 6 month contract in case he turns out to be crap so they don’t have to keep him on the wage bill.... I mean that’s what’s happening now (they have a few they want to shift like Bollasie) who have drained their money

The key is a player to come in and have a game changing impact
We miss that so much

@milo Tanganga
Decent first half but yet again undone by 3 poor goals. Need to do more with the ball once we get possession, give a sloppy pass far too often putting us back on the defensive. Relieved it was only 3 in the end.

We were still a 4th place team that season so not miles off the pace.

Trouble is we ruined the continuity by changing the person at the top - in all liklihood we'd have targetted CB improvements rather than persevering with Toby & Dier had we stuck it out.

New guy came in, thought the team was better than it was and so the rebuild got messed up

until we sort this we will never progress
Yep
But actually on the permanent side it’s got better (cue the arguments)
We have Tanguy, Lo Celso abs Hojdjberg who would start in our best midfield
We have Reggie at LB
Doherty hasn’t been a success so far but it’s a different set up and he looks shot. He has however got Aurier playing well
Hart is here for cover and no more
Bergwein will IMO come good and despite the haters has been decent most of the time
Sessegnon, Clarke and Rodon were all brought to develop over time
Vinny has been ok
We brought us Fernadez to cover injuries
Bale has flopped but it’s a loan again

so IMO the deals we have made have actually been ok - not amazing, and not that bad

I still say getting rid of the dead wood is gonna hurt us

We were 4th but our form second half of the season was on par with now (we won 4 games I believe). And that season before we played Burnley we could have done top I believe

Well I can only only speak for myself, but good point - I couldn’t really argue against a GK to replace Lloris either. I don’t think we need a RB, Doherty deserves at least a second season and we have Tangana who looks good. Skipp and Sess will be upgrades to the squad. An experienced CB could help elevate Dier or Sanchez if he is a good organiser and I like the look of Rodon. Getting Lo Celso consistently fit if possible would make a huge difference to the other end of the pitch too....
