Christian Eriksen

How can someone putting up the distances he does lack heart.

If that was the case he would do half the amount and stand there

He’s also not in the team to be a ball winner.

Id suggest there is a difference between "heart" and "effort".

I dont fault him for running the kms every game. Ive defended him many times for doing basic, steady, and essential work and getting slated for not being eye catching.

That said, I have to agree, he does seem to lack that extra something to really put himself on the line, or stand up when it truly counts.

He wont go into a tackle full blooded, he wont put the extra effort in to stop a player, he wont stand up and take the match by the scruff when we are crying out for someone to do so...

I must be understanding his role incorrectly, he is not in the team to do this - he is meant to starting moves/assisting/scoring

We have 2 holders to do this.

The blokes scored a number of last minute goals, Winning goals when struggling to break teams down.

You would not except Mata/Silva to go screaming into a tackle two footed.

He is being held against unrealistic expectations

Given his actual tackle completion in the league, what does that say about the heart of Sissoko etc?

This season a lot of his running pointless, he's seld been where he should be. He is constantly marked when we have the ball but in space when don't have it.
In past seasons he hasn't tackled but has closed down lanes, this season he has been on the wrong side of opposition players.

No he's not in the team to be a ball winner, doesn't mean he shouldn't try when the need or oppunity arises. You mention Sissoko, he's not in the team to score goals, so would you be OK with it if he let the ball drift past him in front of an open goal?

I'd be interested in seeing these tackling stats. What is tackle completion?

I note that you don't or can't deny anything that I say but keep throwing to be honest rather spurious arguments back.

No one is asking him to go thundering into tackles, but at least try and for the ball. Several times this season he has let players not only walk past them with minimal effort to stop but let them after they have past him.
That is not good enough, and tbh I'm shocked and slightly disappointed poch has seemingly let him do it.

Well i accept that there are few on here who will not agree with what i am going to say. IMO Eriksen has been one of the ( if not the best) players we have had over the last few seasons and i doubt we would be where we are without him.

So IF he goes i will wish him the best and thank him for what he has done for us. He will be missed for sure.

I agree. And yet if he goes, so beit. We can rebuild and we can use the money to fund players like Le Celco. Ideally we'd have LeCelo and Eriksen. But we've been here before with Bale and Modric. The chances are Eriksen is off. 80:20 he's off. Only thing creating some doubt is he played so poorly in the CL final and may not attract better teams. He could have made himself the talk of Europe, but his passing was off, and he didn't stamp himself on the game. In big games it has maybe been his achilles. For Danmark he's delivered, he almost single handedly got them into the WC. And we know he's had a long pretty consistent season. With competion and rotation he could probably do better still.

So if Madrid, Barca, Bayern don't come in for him, what do we do? Tell him he's being sold to China unless he signs on? Thankfully his approach is conciliatory and I'm sure he will work with Levy and the club.

In short, only way I see him staying is if A. no offers from big clubs arrive and B. we put a massive offer on the table.

Of course he is, all players in a Poch side are there to do it. Or at the very least make a bloody good go of it. Its a red herring to assume that means a two footed tackle.

He has made impacts, of course he has* but I dont think its unfair to say he has been well below par this season.

Which can fairly be categorised as having displayed a lack of heart, IMO.

*This is bordering on a very internet discussion, where all perspective gets shifted to absolute binary. I should reiterate, I am a big fan of Eriksen and certainly not looking to get painted as someone who doesnt rate him or anything like that.

Again - most tackles out of our midfield - so he is tackling when he can.

Tackle stats on the PL website.

I have countered ever point you have made, you have nothing to back up the claims of him not tackling or not creating.

Totally agree with last paragraph, I've always said that most of the time his pluses out weigh his minuses, but this season its been much closer.

I dont disagree he has been under par at times this year, however where is the same discussions about Alli who (lets be honest) has been much much worst this season.

The excuses for the Alli and Kane etc have been tiredness - The only players that have played more mins in the league this season is Toby and Hugo, and only Toby has played more mins in the CL - CE has still played more games combined.

That is not even including Internationals/friendlies and domestic cups.

Its all out there, but this is the Eriksen thread.

Ive defended Alli a lot, I think much of this season he has taken one for the team - but undeniably he has been much less his best self than any other season.

I said similar of Kane just yesterday, despite the stats I think he has had a poor season by the standards he has set himself.

Ive not said tiredness for either myself. I think fatique has been a squad wide issue this season - and on that front Eriksen has actually come out better than any.

So our AM holds his own with the DM pure CM, whilst leading the assists?

That is a ringing endorsement of him, or the rest are pretty bog standard.

I really don’t care what the stats say, there are times when Eriksen wimps out of tackles or gives up the ghost defensively. The Mane one at the weekend was a prime example. I remember Walker absolutely bawling him out of it a few years ago for wimping out of a tackle too. He does it semi-regularly.

He’s such an intelligent player though. His performance against Bournemouth was, for me, absolutely brilliant from a defensive/discipline point of view. He kept himself in the right positions for the entire second half when the temptation must have been to try and burst forward or just stroll. That’s the frustrating thing with Eriksen – he has such a brilliant football brain but sometimes his application/heart/whatever-you-want-to-call-it lets him down.

And before I get accused of being an Eriksen-hater – I love watching the fella play and would love to see him sign a new contract. But he does have flaws.

He does well in some aspects, worse in others, as anyone would likely suggest - I was just pointing out that your stats werent exactly fair/right.

As you say yourself, he played more minutes than pretty well anyone - of course his numbers will be high compared to our DMs who barely played all season.

However, per 90, its nothing like as cut and dried as you suggest.

If you played less surely the stats would be higher due to less minutes played

Not aware how these stats work

I think he will end up staying and signing a lucrative new deal, same with toby.

It all depends on whether madrid come in for him and I dont think they will.

They will get hazard and pogba instead.

If he stays and we add ndombele, lo celso and bale then we will be unstoppable.

I can honestly say I feel absolutely no ill will against Eriksen whatsoever. If he comes back to the Lane playing for an opposing team I will stand up and applaud him, however if he wants to leave I want a deal done and him out of my club as soon as possible.
