team for watford:

--------------lloris
aurier----toby----vert----rose
---------dier----winks
--lamela----eriksen---moura
------------son

Batter them and this is all forgotten.

Yeah he can
Don’t make so many changes to beat a prem team away in the cup
I’m sure it Kane Alli and Son were available they would have been on the bench, but in their absence Eriksen has become even more important.

Poch didn’t miss the pen or the goal from 6 yards but give the soft one away, this one is on the individual errors for me.

tough to decide but I would be happy to miss a season of CL if we won both the league and fa cups
Wow, that is crazy talk.

I don't think you realise how important the CL is.
Moving into the new stadium with CL guaranteed will give us a load more money, convince players to stay, increase wages, get us a better long term stadium sponsor, it is MASSIVE to get CL this year of all years.

A cup is just a nice day. Then we can't afford any more players and have to sell players, negative spiral ending in relegation to the 4th tier.

How about playing a kid right back on the left?

Fair enough. I'd prefer to win a cup.

We are not going to win the CL or the PL.
Good to know, and thank you for the answer. I loved seeing us win cups but my personal opinion is the long-term ambitions of the club are better served by the prestige and money from the CL which will hopefully allow Levy to open his handbag so Poch can get better players for when all our best attackers are out and our CM's aren't injured, sold or returning from injury/sickness. Oh, and money for a new right back.

He played plenty of first team players. (Dier, Vert, Trippier, Sanchez, Lamela, Wanyama, Lucas...)

He just obviously didn’t play the ones who were injured, or knackered. (Kane, Dele, Son, Eriksen, Winks, Sissoko, Davies, Rose etc)

He then had to pick the youth and the deadwood, to fill the many gaps.

1 (verts) is a first 11 player plus Dier in my team. The rest are squad players

Why not?

Let’s take this logically, some will say we can’t win the CL or the PL because we won’t get past City, who are still in the FA Cup anyway.

Just as much chance of them fudging up and eliminating themselves from the CL (as they did last season) as there is of them doing so in the FA Cup right?

I think as fans we’d take it but if that one season meant a wage reduction for our top players, a smaller transfer budget (I know what’s smaller than 0 right?) and potentially the knock on effect of more seasons out of it it becomes a big setback in where we are aiming to be.
Plus every year we are in the CL we are depriving another rival team that income

Fair enough Poch! ;-)

Which first 11 non injured, non knackered players, exclusively from your first 11, were you putting out today then?

I reckon Harry and Dele would have really struggled tbh.

Of course we are much better and consistent than the 90’s BUT trophies are everything.
What’s the point otherwise?

This is my personal point of view, that I don't expect everyone to agree with (of course) - but if we have a season where we win say 50 matches, score a 100 goals, but don't get a trophy, in my opinon, that's better than us winning say 30 matches, scoring 50 goals and getting a trophy. There is simply more joy for me in us playing well in say 80-90% of our games over the course of a season, than mostly playing brick or average and winning a trophy. The two aren't mutually exclusive, of course, but I think we simply have to recognize that we're not in a financial position where we can choose to prioritize the FA cup over the league or the Champions League. We need the cash. Simple as. And with four of our best men out, and a lot of our best players having played a lot of matches over the past couple of months, the manager need to rest them every once in a while. Would it be better to rest Eriksen and Winks in the semi against Chelsea? Or in the next league game? The league is the most important to us as long as we're fighting for a CL place, and it always will be. Also, having just played an exhausting semi against Chelsea a few days ago, it might simply not have been a choice for the manager to play Eriksen - maybe he was at the point where he had to be rested (as Poch himself said).

We're clearly a better team now than when we won the league cup in 2008 or in '99. We're better to watch, we're more consistent, and I believe we will eventually win a trophy if we keep this up. Of course I'd want us to win a trophy, but stop fretting, we'll get there eventually. The most important thing, in my opinion, is that we keep our league form up, keep getting into the CL, keep getting the cash in, pay off the stadium, and eventually (sooner rather than later) get to a level where we can compete financially with the other top clubs.

I'm not going to go over this cups or CL argument again. It is done every year, twice, and my own opinion hasn't changed. It is not all about money it is about trophies IMO. That is last I'm going to say on it.
