World Cup 2018 Group D (Argentina, Iceland, Croatia, Nigeria)

No one questions Messi's ability. He does that stuff routinely for Barcelona and occasionally for Argentina. He is one of the best players of all time.

However, the question is whether he should be considered the greatest player of all time.

Pretty much sums it up, great player no doubt but not sure about the greatest player ever.

Still, Iceland only one goal away from ending Messi's world cup. And they were close in the first half too.

Nobody can say definitively who the greatest ever is, every player has something against them compared to one of the other greats. All we can really say is which players are in the conversation as the greatest. Messi is in that debate.

He might not be the best player from his country (admittedly a high bar). You then have to ask who contributed to the success of their club and national teams more.

Argentina are very average, even if they scrape through it doesn't look like they would threaten any of the good teams.

Argentina need a goal and have the likes of Dybala and Aguero on the bench, but instead sub on a guy who has barely played in the Argentinan league!!
