Christian Eriksen

I love Eriksen and thought he was excellent again yesterday. But Harry is, without a shadow of a doubt, our most important player.

Do not get me wrong Kane is a great player but we have proved we can win with him out injured, i am not sure if Eriksen was out as long as Kane has been ( on a couple of times over the last few seasons) we would have the same result.

Eriksen makes my pants sticky and we have no one in our squad that could replace him.

I had the same view re Alderweirald.

Poch has changed this season to make the tactics flexible enough that can cover for anyone being out.

I agree. He's our metronome.

It is not a theory that I want to see tested but maybe Winks could cover for him.

Was that before we bought Sanchez though? because we may/would have struggled more if Sanchez had not settled as quickly. At the moment we have no one who could give us what Eriksen does, that may change if Pooch brings some one in.

As Milo said Winks may turn out to be that player but as good as he is at the moment he is not at that point yet. imo.

It was pre Sanchez, but that hasn't changed my opinion that much tbh. Although it is great to have someone so good. But I still think the approach to playing with players available has become more important than any individual.
If Eriksen did have a moderate lay off (ie a couple of months) (and let's hope we don't need to test this!!) I think we would use Lamela, Son and Kane, with Lamela looking for the cute passes and Kane dropping a bit more at certain times with Alli and Son running off him.
So the movement essentially creates the space and angles for Lamela and Kane to feed the others.
You don't need that quote so much with CE because he manages to put the ball in areas that you just should not be able to.

Kane was out, Son covered excellently, despite not being at all similar.

Vertonghen was out, Wimmer did a cracking job and his absence wasnt felt too badly.

Alderweireld is out, Sanchez covers. Rose is out and Davies grows into the role brilliantly.

And, ultimately, players leave Poch and (most often) dont look quite as good elsewhere.

I think @monkeybarry is right, its excellent management.

No one player makes my pants sticky afaic - we are a perfect example of a team game where there are contributers all over the pitch - Eriksen is a great player no question but he plays the role that a lot of attacking play will naturally go through because he plays smack bang in the middle of the attacking third - if he wasnt there it'd go through someone else and in terms of this paericular argument id wager whoever replaces him in the team would get closer to his creative output than any striker we could buy would get close to Kanes goal scoring numbers.

Missed him badly today. Our link play from midfield to up top was non-existent today. I'm not Lamela's biggest fan, or certainly dont rate him anywhere near the level which some people on here do, however was amazed that given Eriken was out, Lamela didnt start

Especially when it's Sissoko that got the nod ahead of Lamela. Without Eriksen we aren't nearly the same team. Those conditions weren't easy today but for a player of his ability and technique, he would have stood out compared to the rest of them sliding around on the ground.

Winks would have also made a difference, for similar reasons. I didnt think Dembele did much with the ball today, one of his poorer games which when coupled with Sissoko in midfield, meant we struggled to use the ball remotely well

Said it before but Eriksen is our most important player, without him in the team we have far less creative play. We have no one who can step in for him to supply us the way he does.

We've needed back for him for years. Can't believe we've taken so long to address this. Even when he is fit and healthy he can't be expected to do it every game.

Do not disagree but the problem is that are not many around who are as good as he is and on top of that they would want to play every game. We have the same problem (' to a lesser degree) finding a back up to Kane.
