This. I welled up a bit watching that video. The lad's absolutely gutted. He keeps looking for an escape route.

I think the comments about him being inconsistent are unfair. After Kane he’s literally been our most consistent attacking player over the last three seasons. If he’s inconsistent then I don’t know what our other players are.

Didn’t he only get 1 league goal before the new year?

Mate, he is patchy every year. Great spell, then disappears for a couple of months, it’s like clockwork. Love the player, but he is definitely not consistent hence why he’s never got 20 goals in a season...

He’s scored more goals than Alli over the last couple of seasons.only Kane has scored more than him I believe. Even Kane has patches where he plays badly and people ask “what’s happened to Kane?”

Think you guys are talking at cross purposes. He’s very consistent across seasons, but inconsistent within seasons.

Jurgen: in PL he got 11 goals and 7 assists from week 11 to 26, then 1 goal and 1 assist from week 27 to 38. In each of those periods he missed just one match.

He's scored 20 this season @ 164 minutes per goal. Mighty impressive for someone who is not a main striker.

He doesn't 'disappear' as you put it, that's a lazy comment. Implies he's hiding, not putting in the effort. He does have spells where his dribbles don't come off and/or shots don't find the net.

    Big difference.

I meant league goals not goals in all competitions. The most he has ever got is like 14, which would be nowhere near what he would be getting if he was consistently doing what he does for the periods where he is on form- he would be getting Kane figures. Yes you are right, he does still put in the effort - by disappearing I meant his goals/assists disappears, his productivity isnt anywhere near as great....

Indeed he consistently has got 12-14 in the league which is a decent return. He seems to hit a couple of golden spells during a season, then there are barren periods- its hardly some big revelation, he is patchy. If Jurgen's definition of consistent is him getting a similar amount of goals each season then fair enough....

Fair enough. Inconsistent might be a better word, then again, which player isn't?

He’s not a striker so I don’t expect him to get 20 league goals. As long as he gets 10+ and close to 20 in all comps then that’s pretty damn good. He gets a similar amount of goals to players in his position like Firmino and Alli. He’s actually been more consistent than Alli over the last two seasons.

Some very cringeworthy things being said in this thread, but by no means the only thread with these types of comments. The guy just wants to win and puts the effort in every match.

Yeah, if we had Messi there would be some on here complaining that he has lost half a yard of pace since he's grown the beard.

Even though it's an absolute horror show from Pickford and Zouma, his first against Everton was such a good finish, not easy by any stretch. Had forgotten about that one!

Son has played a lot of matches. I hope he has a good rest. Burnout is not a good thing.

He travels a hell of a lot during a season, I wonder if that plays a part in his form fluctuations. This season he definitely seemed to run out of steam in the last couple of months.

Bit weird, seeing as he has the exact number of goals and one less assist in 16 fewer games (in the PL) than a certain £86M Welshman. With the exception of Bale's last season when he essentially had a free role and didn't have to share the goals with one of the best strikers in the world, Son has had a better return than him every season. Count the cups, and Son is even further ahead.

I am pretty sure if he started as many matches as Kane and not having to travel half way round the world to complete in different international tournaments during the season he would be more consistent.
