I moved seats against PSV. Many tourists. But with all the free seat, just pick a new seat at HT.

Disappointed not to keep a clean sheet, we rarely seem to keep them these days. The quality of our defence has definitely gone down this season. I also don't understand why when 3-0 up we don't rest some players and give others minutes e.g. Llorente get some game time in place of Kane so he's at least had some minutes if we need to call upon him over the festive period.

Chelsea are in a slide of form (were actually pretty average against Fulham despite the win) and play City next. Goons are unbeaten in 20 and are 2 points below us. United are now 10pts below us and showing a minus goal difference. Liverpool whilst sticking close to City have 3 of the big guns in the next 6 games.

We really have to be delighted to be where we are considering the terms we’ve played under so far this season (I won’t go into them again).

Women eh? Ban the lot of them. What have they ever done for man?

By the way, I noticed the new Soton boss Ralf Hoophodderdodder had 2 women nattering behind him.
You'd think he would want to concentrate deeply and make notes, during this key moment to see his players in action.

    You’re quite right.

I was just joking and tbh I’m ashamed to say I’ve prob had the odd match where I’ve been like that (maybe gone with a mate haven’t seen for a while / dull game etc)

Hope you still enjoyed the match!

The bolded bit is VERY puzzling tbh...I've mentioned it earlier this week about how Pochettino doesn't take some obvious chances to rotate and keep players even more fresh plus try new ways of playing with different personnel...can ANYBODY explain that tonight? I mean even giving Kane a 20 minute break when 3-0 up??
    @thfcsteff , @BrainOfLevy ?
    Anyone? Can you explain this??

There was supposed to be a smiley after my message but I was getting off the train and didn’t finish typing properly.

Still enjoyed the game but Wembley is getting tiresome.

There's been a lot of comments on this on here and Twitter, in a 'lol that's classic Poch' as if it's something wrong with him.

I look at it like this - he is one of the most obsessed coaches around about physical condition. He is obsessed with data. Everything he does with regards to conditioning is probably something he has applied the most thought to.

I think he likes to get minutes into players, and likes to build their endurance. I think if a player needs rest, they get rest and don't play, but I don't think it's very common that key players get 'rested' and subbed off after 65 mins for arguments sake. I don't think Poch thinks about it like that. I think he likes the key players to in a peak condition, and I don't think there has ever been a point where our key players have been seriously underwhelming as the season progresses. They all seem to get better. I don't have the precise data to answer it properly, but we just have to trust him. It's all about leading to performances across the season, and building endurance and flow. He rests more for injury prevention, but plays more for form. Think of it that way.

A lot of our system is based on being physically better than the opposition, particularly as the season progresses. We withstand more than others and we run more. To do that well the players need minutes. If you think back to previous seasons, he has played Eriksen and Dele in early League Cup rounds against lower league opposition because they needed minutes. He doesn't think about it like rest, unless they are close to an injury. Remember how early season everyone says Kane looks tired, and then all of sudden he goes on a run? I swear it's happened every year since his second first team season. It isn't rest he needed, it's minutes.

I think 16/17, we peaked perfectly towards the end, and were so unlucky that Chelsea went on a ridiculous run earlier on in the season. Last season, I think we peaked too early (likely because of more intensity / tempo given in the CL group stages) and this season he is clearly trying to manage the entire squad so we can last the course. I also think he knows about individual players to the point where he knows where their breaking points are. I think Kane can handle more than most, and I think Dele often gets subbed on 85 mins if he's started. There are small adjustments, but generally it's about getting the minutes into the players so they can hit peak condition at the business end of the season.

I think giving players a rest because we are 3 goals up is very much a Harry Redknapp style 'think about winning the game today' kind of thing where as Poch is more a 'lets think about how we manage ourselves across the season' and he doesn't let individual circumstance deviate himself too much from the plan, and that's why our form is generally consistent and predictable.

Happy with the results but another poor performance. We ended up chasing the ball around a lot and using up energy. We didn't keep the ball well and conceded lots of chances. Soton could have easy got something even at 3-0 down.

When you are winning and scoring you dont feel tired, you just keep going. i dont know why we just stopped playing.

I am still waiting for a run of games where we win and put in some good performances, there is only so long you can get away with getting results and playing badly.

I agree with brainoflevy, however, if you cant give Kane a little rest for 20 mins when 3-0 up, when can he get a breather? its more to the fact that if he got injured in the last 20 you'd be kicking yourself.

Third in the league with our financial resources makes it difficult to criticise Pochettino.
But last night (in the second half) we looked like the bottom team in the league rather than a top four team.
There must be some rational in his methods but I’m buggered if I can see it.

It did seem that we made a conscious effort to slow the game down and sit on our 3-0 lead with 30 minutes to go. When this wasn't working it was surprising that we didn't make earlier substitutions, particularly Llorente for Kane, Sissoko for Eriksen, This is a worrying trend as we also saw this at Wolves earlier in the season and arguably against Chelsea last week. It does seem to be an instruction for Poch though rather than the players just taking it easy

It’s good to look at things from a different angle and this may explain Toby’s absence from the Goon game. Thing is Poch has mentioned the impact of playing so many games in a small period, so when there was an opportunity to not only rest Kane but take away the possibility of an injury when 3-0 in a low profile game it’s difficult for me to think it was a decision based on improving his fitness. I agree our use of a small squad and fitness levels have been a strength during Poch’s time, it just feels odd that our defenders get rotated more than our striker. This season other than the Chelsea game it’s felt like we have been playing playing with the handbrake on, yet somehow we are 3rd without really having our first x1 available, so what do I know?!
