Just finished Joyland, the new King novel, its great, read it in a couple of days, that man is the greatest story teller of our time.

Been on an Irvine Welsh binge of late. Finished Skagboys, Porno, Glue and Acid House. Can't speak highly enough of his writing.

Just started reading Pimp by Iceberg Slim. Read Trick Baby before and that was amazing, but Pimp is meant to be the best of his work

Almost finished "Life", the autobiography of Keith Richards. Really enjoying it. It's much better written than I thought it would be and he doesn't hold much back.

Just finished Inferno, the latest Robert Langdon story by Dan Brown. Like the other three; Angels & Demons, The Da Vinci Code and The Lost Symbol, it's brilliant. Very entertaining, good plot full of twists and turns and an all round good read.

Next up is finishing Stalingrad, written by Anthony Beevor. Highly recommended so far!

I finished "Great Lion Of GHod" by Taylor Caldwell a few days ago, very vivid and inspiring story of St.Paul's life. I'm currently reading The Kite Runner, only a couple chapters in but it's good so far.

Looking forward to Kings book

How a man can be gifted with such imagination is amazing. Most of us, including me, are lucky to have an original thought once a month, yet King has produced so many great stories from his mind.

My favorite is The Stand.

Didn't have AVB's book in Waterstones - Enfield today.

Had to go to the Football section (they appear to have our section right next to the goons for some reason - favouring the Ricky Villa book in particular).

Ended up in the biography section then had to decide what letter his surname began with (ended up on V). Alas no luck.

I read Stalingrad a few years back. A very good read in deed, a viewpoint on the war that was at that point new to me at that point.

Much better than Dan Brown ;)

Anyone else here into Murakami books at all? (might have been discussed already, not sure)

Can anyone recommend any good horror/ghost story books in the vein of Susan Hill and MR James??

Not familiar with either Susan Hill or MR James but if you are looking for horror/thriller then i'd recommend 'It' by Stephen King, currently reading it myself, brilliant so far. Bit lengthy though, think it has 1300 pages in total, got 300 pages or so left myself. Not necessarily a dark and suspense-filled horror though if that's what you are after.

If you are looking for suspense then 'I Am Legend' is pretty decent, don't be put off by the movie if you've seen that, doesn't compare in quality or is all that similar in terms of the story to the book.

I'm not a big reader, but I would thoroughly recommend Lenny McLean's autobiography, The Guvnor. I could not put it down, a very interesting book on a pretty colourful life.

Stumbled upon David Downings Station series, highly reccomend it, especially if you like the Philip Kerr books mentioned above.

Just bumping to see if anyone had any good ideas for Books this Christmas?

I tend to drop a hint or two for some books I wouldn't mind but I'm all out of ideas recently.. anyone recommend anything good?

A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson. Very good.
