    Terrible shame, isn't it?

The only time I went to Paris I went there, I thought it was very impressive.

    I wonder how it happened?

Usually when much-loved buildings suddenly catch fire, someone plans to put a stadium up on the ashes.

It looks like it was undergoing some restoration work. I won't be shocked to hear there's a connection.

Tragic. I'm not religious, but I love old churches and cathredrals. Such a shame.

This is a cracking post and did make me giggle.

But obviously to echo the thoughts of others, a terrible shame. Unless I've missed something, it doesn't seem like anyone has been caught up in the blaze which is a serious silver lining.

The whole building might burn to the ground now, they say.

Very sad to see this. The destruction of a piece of history and masterful architecture, an iconic sight. To say nothing of all the artwork, statutory etc. inside.
It is not sounding hopeful that it can be saved.

Strange they can't put it out. A helicopterbucketful of Seine would do it.

Apparently they fear dropping water from helicopters would make the whole structure collapse.

Then sprinkle it slower, not all in one massive SPLAT. Spray it with foam. Throw brie at it. Don't just watch it burn down.

Bet Macron gets the EU to pay for it. So I guess that means we end up paying, instead of using that money for some OAPs to have hip replacements or roads repaired.

The French hate paying for anything.

Don't shoot me, I'm not French, nor a firefighter. Although one of my exes wished I was.
