Defoe's Toronto are on BT Sport 2 playing against Seattle in the MLS if anyone interested

scores on his debut, 16 minutes in. slipped through the middle one touch and puts it in the corner \o/

Just got a second, pounced on a poor pass, shifted past the defender and finished low bottom corner

Good for him! Was always thinking he'd be a success over there. Let's see if he keeps it up.

Just posted these in the Defoe thread before it was archived...

@WhoScored: Jermain Defoe: Has scored more league goals for Toronto (2) in 24 minutes of action than he managed for Spurs (1) in 423 minutes this season

Not bad from JD. So many old EPL players on show in that game, had no idea Julio Cesare had gone out that way as well.

lee young-pyo was at the vancouver whitecaps too, and was one of their standout players during his time there. retired at the end of last season tho.

Spurs wished Defoe good luck on the advertising hoardings during the game

Nice bit of work by Defoe on a challenging day for on-the-deck football with the pitch so soft and broken. Not bad, mind you, considering a foot of fresh snow fell here just over a week ago after a very harsh winter. Still, the ball was bobbling about, making clean contact a bit of a lottery.

Defoe looked sharp getting into good positions. A great early chance was stopped by a great reflex flick of the goalie's boot - 'Kick save, and a beauty' as the hockey commentators love to say.

Later, he was worked in close, with the goalie at his mercy, but only managed to hit the post. When he did score, it was a bit of luck and a poacher's instinct, controlling a partially cleared rebound near the spot and slotting it neatly between the goalie and post. Place went mental. He's been given star billing in a city desperate to see a winner and, so far, he's lived up to it in every way. Followed up today's performance with a gracious appearance at a glamorous charity banquet in the evening.

He's been great with the media, especially getting used to having the entire dressing room opened to reporters and cameramen within 10 minutes of game's end. When you're winning, it's a nice thing to deal with. Lose and you're facing instant accountability. Either way, they're voracious.

As good as Defoe has been, the real star in all this is prickly U.S. midfielder Michael Bradley. He's an instant legend for steam-rolling the ref in the first half. Sent him tumbling, tits over tea-cosy, didn't break stride pursuing the ball.

His tenacity and passing skill help create the service springing Defoe in on goal, especially when he provokes a midfield turn over. Quite brilliant, and an absolute bastard to play against. But you love to have them on your side. If these performances continue through the World Cup and into the MLS playoffs, he'll have a short stay in Toronto. Some Premier League team will be in for him. It's only two games in, but something to watch for.

Defoe, of course, is already taking lessons in Portuguese. Bom dia, Brasil.

I was at the game, have to say, not sure what game commentators/pundits were watching, Bradley had a complete mare.

Defoe/Gilberto were miles beyond anyone else on the pitch.
Bradley got a bit of the ball, but made wrong choices, lack of understanding with his teammates, wasted pressing, poor game. You could tell he will be effective, but it was like watching an out of form Scott Parker, lots of hussle, very little product

Disagree. There were many glowing reviews about his play. He set up the winning goal with a great pass to Gilberto. Also made another great pass to Defoe to set up DeRosario for a great chance. In the first half, Bradley laid in a gorgeous ball that Alvaro Rey curled past the keeper but just over the bar.

There were a few occasions early on where Bradley hit balls into the DCU back four that came up short, but the wind and greasy footing played havoc with everyone's judgement on weighting passes properly.

Given that the pitch was a complete midden - a foot of snow fell about a week prior - it was very hard for anyone to truly shine. But a nightmare for Bradley? Sois serieux. He split his head open for 13 stitches(staples?) just after the hour mark and still carried on nicely.

As for man of the match, it wasn't any of the glamour boys. It was CB Doniel Henry. That left back, Morrow (#2 - 'TwoMorrow') also played well. The only nightmare I saw out there was Jackson, who ran many promising situations into dead ends or give aways.
