We desperately need at least one centre half as Toby and Jan are old and Sanchez can’t pass a ball or deal with long balls. Full backs also a top priority given how important they have become in football recently and ours are either the definition of unreliable or just painfully average at everything.

We get those areas sorted along with a proper DM and a back up striker then we will be a much, much better side next season.

It's shocking to think that it is only a year since Dortmund. He was unplayable that night.

I know he is nearly 33 but i always thought he could play into his mid 30's before the decline we have seen in his game over the last 12 months. I will always look back on him when he does leave as one of the best CB's i have seen in our shirt.

I know he's not been great of late, but in the context of the hypothetical dream 11, how can you drop Alli?? It's clear he's at his best when surrounded by Kane and Son. And presumably as Lo Celso gets more settled he'd replicate the kind of creativity that Eriksen offered Dele?

    Lloris

    Aurier Toby Vertonghen Tanganga

    Lo Celso N'Dombele

    Son Alli Bergwijn

    Kane

Priority: Buy a RB first and then shift Tanganga into the centre.

Assuming everyone is fully fit, who would you select as our best current team (and formation). Mine is: 4-3-3

    ..............................Lloris...................................

    Aurier.............Sanchez.......Toby............Davies

    ...Sissoko..............NDombele..........LoSelco

    Son......................Kane...............Dele

I think most would agree that our current resources really don't lead to a well balanced team even if everyone is fully fit. I am giving NDombele the benefit of the doubt for the moment. With Moura and Lamela not featuring in my best X1, I don't really know the benefits of buying Little Stevie. We surely had many more pressing needs in different positions.

This could be adapted to a a 4-2-3-1 with LoCelso moving forward.

Tough to leave out Bergwijn or Dele. Bergwijn adds some pace and can finish. More of a striker with Dele more creative. Would rotate Bergwijn, Dele, Moura, Lamela keeping the forward players fresh and able to give everything each game. All of them have ability and can contribute goals. Was impressed with Bergwijn. He has pace is tenacious and he hit the ground the running. A front 3 of Son, Kane, Bergwijn could be potent. Dele could also rotate with LoCelco. The two are quite similar in some ways. Busy creative players who look to make things happen.

Who is our best LB? Vertonghen. With Aurier better going forward Verts can play as a third CB, and Sissoko can fill in at RB.

    ——————————Lloris
    Aurier———-Sanchez———Toby———Sessegnon
    ——————————Sissoko
    ————-Lo Celso—————————Dele
    —-Moura———-——Kane————————-Son

Ndombele can come in for Dele if he can be bothered to put in some effort.

Defensive midfield is the weakest position I think, then the full backs both sides (although I expect Sessegnon to improve with time in the team and experience, so I would play him there and let him grow if we don’t sign anybody) next weakest are the centre halves. Front 5 is good with some decent cover options in Bergwijn, Winks, Ndombele and Gedson also being available. Though we do lack cover for Kane of course.

Could solve the full back issue for zero transfer fee outlay with Meunièr and Kurzawa (big wages though).
My top choices for DM, CB and CF are Kalvin Phillips, Robin K0ch and Vedat Muriqi but at about £60m plus combined I doubt we’ll have the finances to bring them in. Hojbjerg from Southampton might be a cheaper DM option (1 year left on contract) maybe KWP can be a makeweight? I have no clue on potential cheap CH or CF options though.

There isn't much between Moura Bergwijn and Lamela.

Hopefully Bergwijn manages to step it up towards the level of Son/Alli(at his peak)

Some Dele FACTS...(not necessarily for you but in respect of a few leaving him out (I know you didn't).

Up until Kane's injury this season he had 6 goals and 3 assists from 12 league games. Was right back on track for me. Regularly covering the most ground and producing moments of magic that we'd seen previously, (Man U goal, Brighton goal, West Ham assist).

Before this season (All domestic comps):

    15/16 - 21 goals/assists from 46 games
    16/17 - 35 goals/assists from 50 games
    17/18 - 31 goals/assists from 50 games
18/19 - 15 goals/assists from 38 games (Post WC fitness issues and playing deeper a lot to cover lack of options in squad)

I think the 17/18 season seems to slip peoples memories for some reason.

And by the way - James Maddison who was considered by many to have had a cracking season last season managed 14 g/a in 38 games. Crippled Dele playing deeper loads managed more.

We've got a one off talent here who by my reckoning has only struggled on 2 occasions:

    1. Post World cup playing at less than 400% and out of favoured position.
    2. In the absence of Kane, Son and Eriksen whom he has obviously done most of his good work with in the last 3/4 years.

    Keep the faith!

You may not watch many games from that comment

    - Dele's issue is he often plays (from first season) complete brick for 87 minutes, then pops up with a goal or assist (usually after missing 2-3 absolute sitters in same game)
    - The best I've seen him play is when we got the Son, him, Eriksen movement and interchange behind Kane working.

He unfortunately can be a luxury player, a very effective luxury player but when put in a side decimated by injuries and with key players off form, he was exposed in my opinion.

How you play Dele may depend on what do we want to play
    - In my opinion Spurs needs to move away from attack/width coming primarily from FBs (ours aren't good enough and there isn't a glut on the market)
    - We need to leverage our significant strength in AM players to produce the threat

So lets look at lineup in a full and fit Spurs accepting the attack has to come from midfield

Keeper, back 4, +1 holding player is a given
    Kane plays
So we have 7 slots taken, 4 slots open
To me, Son & Lo Celso are also a given, so two slots left

    Those two slots
    - 1 alongside the holding player (Dele can play here, but really don't see the point. N'dombele fit should own this)
    - 1 attacking (here you have Bergwijn, Lucas, Lamela, Dele or even Parrot if we decided to be brave and really try two up front)

I get Dele's abilities but I don't see him as a given in this side
    - If we play counter attacking the pace of Bergwijn and Lucas is better suited
    - If we want a bit of bite and energy, Lamela probably a better option

Could a Dele at top form be a given in first 11 = yes
Have we seen that player consistently in any recent times = no

    Here is my controversial opinion
    - For the right money I'd sell Dele is we had a top level DM option lined up to use said money on. (I wouldn't sell Kane or Son unless they forced it)

You say I may not watch many games by that comment but when has he struggled apart from the 2 scenarios I gave?

You've agreed with me on my point about Eriksen, Kane and Son, and I think that goes hand in hand with the performances very recently which I agree were below par, but were fine until Kane got injured....would you agree?

I don't agree he is a luxury player - he regularly covers the most ground and is a very disciplined defensive attacking player.

The problem is those "two" scenarios seem to have been all of the last year give or take the odd decent performance.

He's a luxury player not because he doesn't give a brick or doesn't put in effort, but because he can be very ineffective for significant periods of a game (either not in it, running into blind alleys, trying ridiculous flicks every time when occasionally a simple pass will do, trying to nutmeg everyone and missing sitters). Luxury in this case means yes you get goals/assists but often not much else effective (and yes that is a whole other argument)

So in the team sheet (again) with the attacking side being 3 behind Kane, two spots go to Son and Lo Celso (unless you disagree?)
Therefore would you really start Dele every time over Bergwijn, Lucas, Lamela and maybe N'dombele (if we are playing him higher?)

I see a place for him, just not a certain starter and if I had to sacrifice one of our expensive players to get another player in to balance the side, I could see the logic of selling him (I don't want to sell anyone)
