Yes absolutely Alli was our best player for a short spell when Jose took over. But for me, the downward trend began under Poch. Various reasons for that of course; injuries, being shifted around and played in different positions, the team not being strengthened. In the end though, it’s on Alli for not improving key aspects of the game like decision making. He’s never been quick and he never will be, he’s not a player with an abundance of skill that can beat an opponent, his lack of development is down to himself. Son and Kane have maintained a high level for the most part over the years, Eriksen too aside from the last 12 months but I’d put that down to him mentally checking out rather than a lack of development. Alli is a very niche player. In the right system, with the right manager he COULD be a top player again. But he’s not as naturally gifted nor has he improved his game like Son for example.

All the same he was a wonderful player for 2 and a half seasons. He seems like genuinely good guy despite all the talk about his head not being fully in the game on and off the pitch. I wish him all the best and will applaud him when he comes back.

Everton v brentford in the f a cup on Saturday.
Dele v Eriksen, playing to see which one scores the goal that knocks spurs out in the next round.
    Put money on it.

I though Dele was great, however, he was somewhat of a luxury player. Although it sounds odd, aside from his goals and assists he was somewhat of a liability, covered up by the team we had under Poch. But that was his game. Unfortunately, when the team worsened, and therefore couldn’t cover for Dele when he tried a fancy flick, we was shown up.

Dele will flourish at Everton, he doesnt need to be a top 4 player for them. He can be selfish, renegade and lazy at times and easily get away within it. It is just unfortunate he couldn’t get away with that in our last 3 years.

Conversely, take those ‘attributes’ out of his game and he is half the player.

I hate the "she's got a new boyfriend" feels that his first Everton interview gave off. Yes you've moved clubs, but sorry lad, to be clear you've stolen a living pretty consistently for the past two years plus and that's why you've been moved on.

That Everton is "such an amazing club" is avoiding the elephant in the room, namely that the most money conscious football chairman out there has let you move for esse tially free, that two of the best managers currently in football have watched you day in day out and decided that Harry Winks is a better option, and not one of the top five clubs in the UK, or even Barcelona who are signing every free transfer they can get, wanted you.

I love Dele. I loved him a lot more when he was Dele Alli, back when his bromance was with Eric Dier, when he looked like he loved the badge and when there was a fire in his belly. I said once I thought he struggled to play without a crowd during covid as he's a performer who riffs off the audience, but honestly I think he's just got sidetracked by shagging pretty girls, earning £90k a week and getting yet another clothing endorsement deal.

I hope I'm wrong, and if I am I hope to f**k there's a buy back clause, but I think he's had his day.

Once again we are blaming managers for a player's consistent inconsistency. Even more it is another opportunity for some to target Jose. Jose Mourinho who has won more trophies and also led Son/Kane to be at their most destructive on the pitch. Let me stop there - that is a topic for another day.

Dele has no one to blame but himself. If I was his father (who incidentally he has distanced himself from - he should work on reconciliation - life is too short), I would be pushing him and seeking a bit more focus. He had an excellent opportunity (I read over 96% of academy intake do not make it to the Premier League) and yet he has gone from destroying Real Madrid to struggling vs Morecambe.

I will be a bit harsh. I am Nigerian and Dele is from my ethnic group albeit a much more distant clan. He is no longer a baby and should stop behaving like one. Responsibility for his life is on his shoulder and he should stop expecting life to be nice or fair. It isn't. At times you have to keep on pushing even when the results aren't there. I see people talking about played out of position and so effing what? Who hasn't been played out of position? Out of position doesn't excuse the brick show I have seen against teams we should be crushing.

I wish him well at Everton and I hope he takes the time to reflect, to stay the eff away from London and to refocus.

    Harsh judgment imho.
If dele was the only player we had who hasn't fulfilled his potential then you may have had a point.
But to be perfectly honest when we have had players of the level of kane, son, Eriksen, bale, jan, hugo, walker, Dembele, who were all with us for good length of time, along with managers like jose, poch and even conte who has been in charge for an embarrassing euro exit, then i think we can say there is something deeply wrong at the club.
Dele at least spoke up, he called it, players attitude and management tactics.
He is, in my opinion, a casualty of us. There is a steel and an arrogance that is sadly missing in our club in dele.
We have a few that talk the talk, but very few, if any, that walk the walk when the chips are down.
