Never doubted it for one minute mate really :), but sometimes a dislike of a manager can distort our thinking straight.

When he tried to gouge the eye out of a person on the on the opposition bench. It tells everything about the man.
My old accountant worked for Chelsea for some time and said he was poisonous at times there!

    First two seasons great.

Third season not as good as the previous two but still good and worthy of a place in the team.

Fourth season decline from the previous season albeit played out of position at times.

Fifth season poor until Mourinho came in, picked up for a couple of months then back to being the Alli from the previous season.

This season not much of a look in but not pulled up any trees when he has played. Treated unfairly at times but hasn’t justified selection either.

Worth nothing that he was dropped from the England squad whilst Poch was still here, but Poch stuck by him no matter what. He’s now been overtaken by Grealish, Foden, Mount and Maddison, even fudging Lindgaard looks better than Alli these days!

Even if his decline has been overstated, he’s not the player he was 4 years ago and he hasn’t kicked on. That’s largely on Alli as well as Spurs for not giving him a kick up the arse sooner. He also isn’t versatile unfortunately for him, not creative enough to play deep, not quick enough to be a winger. It’s either play behind Kane or nothing and unfortunately for Alli, he’s not the undroppable player he was during his first 2-3 seasons.

Personally I hope Jose goes this summer but if we find ourselves with another manager and Alli still can’t regain his form from 2017 then I think it will be time to cut our losses on him.

Yes, "wait and see". Lots of us feeling more disconnected from teh club and more apathetic about the club that we have ever been

    All pretty rubbish

Have a look back through this thread half way through Pochettinos last full season, Dele was getting good reviews for his performances, dominating games playing deeper on the pitch - people tend to change opinions to suit agendas over time so it's useful to look back at what was said in the moment sometimes. So half a season of poor form, then the following season our third best attacking player - a level of output that if repeated would have made him our third best attacking player this season too. No arguments he's way below those other English players atm - Lingard funnily enough a good example of a player that can rediscover a high level of form when given the opportunity and support to do so.

I don't think he has progressed to the level we thought he would by this stage but that's because the sky was the limit back then, you can still fall short of that level and be a worthy player.

Your last point is fair though, if a new manager doesn't make it work then it's time to call it a day - if Mourinho stays then it will be time to call it a day too as there's clearly issues there and he's not going to be given the opportunity.

I think that is because the decline wasn’t overnight, his form gradually got worse over the course of 3-4 seasons. People were also more likely to give him a pass because he was so good for two seasons. People don’t go after Son or Kane the same way they go after Sanchez for example as they have more credit in the bank. Sometimes you look back and realise maybe a player wasn’t as good or as bad as you remember. I’d disagree that he dominated games playing deep. I think he did a job, but he’s not suited to play there. To be fair he didn’t complain.

I know he works hard, but I do see him as somewhat of a luxury player when he’s not at his best. He doesn’t create much, doesn’t dominate the midfield, doesn’t dribble past people, his biggest strength is his ability to ghost into the box and get on the end of through balls, crosses etc. He’s a brilliant finisher and scores wonderful goals, but I don’t see a lot more to his game beyond that knack of being in the right place at the right time.

I think that's a very accurate description of what Dele is. He was never particularly good while playing deep, that isn't a player we would have any interest in if he played for another side.

Late run Dele, ghosting into goal scoring positions Dele is a player that has merit. If he were able to develop his possesional game and make smarter decisions even the role of ACM might be an option for him but anything else I just don't think he cuts it.

Happy Birthday Bamidele Alli. We hail from the same ethnic group but from a different clan.

Bamidele in Yoruba means 'Follow Me Home'. I pray that the Lord in heaven restores what is missing that would ensure success in your career and life follows you home. Have a good coming year, Dele.

Dele Alli reminds me a lot of Thomas Muller. I used to wonder (still do, really) exactly what Muller 'did' in a side that made him so valuable/good. It seems like he has a number of attributes which combine to make him a very effective player who has had a very successful career.

With the right managerial support and coaching I think Dele Alli could be a similar type player. Sadly I suspect he will do that elsewhere, much to our regret.

wonder how long he has left on his contract

I like the lad but we might have to sell him on soon or risk him winding down his contract and i really could not blame him if he wanted to leave.

I think you are spot on! It could apply the whole or the majority of the squad/team!

The biggest difference is Muller always makes the correct decision. His plays might not always come off but he rarely makes the incorrect decision. I don't think that's something you can be taught, his innate game intelligence is just at the elite level.

Spot on. Alli’s decision making leaves a lot to be desired at times. He doesn’t always keep things simple. There’s a time and a place to be expansive and flamboyant but sometimes you just need to do the simple thing. I think he overcomplicates things at times.

Is this ogogoro something you’d recommended for celebrating birthdays / drowning sorrows?!

That colour looks weird. Fresh ogogoro is a solid drink. I try to avoid alcohol but a good chilled glass of ogogoro is great. It comes from the palm tree. Older ogogoro as you can imagine has more alcohol.
